Running is my other cardio... been doing since high school, and I'll definitely vouch for a proper fit. Running surface and how your feet are aligned are also factors... not to mention price sometimes when picking a shoe. A good place to find out what shoe is right for you is at Roadrunnersports.com. They have a "Shoe Dog" analyzer that accounts for just about everything... weekly distance, pronation, terrain, and activity level. Shoe Dog then picks possible shoes for you. Turns out I need an "all terrain" type shoe. Been through most brands... haven't had a pair of Brooks yet. They sound comfy!

T - I agree with Tai 100%!!!!! On the other hand I started almost 18 weeks ago at 134. I'm down to 125 only (and I'm not even sure yet if thats a comfy 125, just low for me). But thats also 3 sizes. What is with that 131? I stayed there forever. And when I get bloated, PMS I always go back to the effin 131. So you've hit a nerve with me! But then......................all of a sudden after weeks it dropped. Why did it take so long??????? Enlighten me if you can. Hold on tight TNT it's going to be an exciting ride!!!!! Tracey

Do you only drink on lifting days? what is everyone's preference? Thanks Toni

Body for Life Forum Message by LauraN (11 posts) at 02:15 PM:
I drink myoplex lite almost everyday except for my cheat days. I use it as one of my meals it's fast and easy.

Body for Life Forum Message by WontGiveUp (42 posts) at 02:17 PM:
Toni-- I drink a shake every day in the morning after working out (1-hour later) because I am not a big morning eater:) On the weekend I will cook a meal instead when I have more time too. Then I have a Myoplex Lite bar for my second meal of the day because as a teacher, I don't get a break without kids until 11:30, so it is not easy to eat a whole food meal around them. The rest of the day it works out for me to eat whole food meals. Sometimes I even have shake before bed. You can safely and effectively use Myoplex Lite products three times a day. Whether you lift or do cardio has not effect on whether you should have a shake or not. Hope that helps!

Body for Life Forum Message by toni220 (89 posts) at 02:24 PM:
Thanks because I actually forgot my meals this morning and had to myoplex lite shakes here at work. My mom brought my food but I had a shake for breakfast due to nothing else around and then for snack later as usual.

I said I ate this yesterday and people were asking what it is. Here is a recipe for it. I've never made it, but I've had it many times. It is so good, and so bad for you. Enjoy! 1 Twelve oz bag chocolate chips 1/2 cup peanut butter 9 cups Rice Chex Cereal 2 cups Powdered Sugar Put powdered sugar in a large brown bag (such as a grocery bag). Put aside. Spread out rice chex cereal on waxed paper. Melt chocolate chips and peanut butter together and pour over the cereal. Put cereal (while still hot from mixture)in bag with sugar and shake. Put in bowl and serve. "WARNING: Only give this to your children when they are going over to Grandma's. It's full of sugar and can produce hyper children!!!"

I occasionally get on the bike for mine. If I'm having to work out at the fire station then it's either the bike or the nasty, cheap, & beat up treadmill at the station. Otherwise I'll use the bike at the gym just for something different that's fairly low impact on my knees.

I have a big problem hitting 10s with my weights. First off I dont know how much weight I need to start with to get 5, then 6, and so on. I only have dumbells and I kept buying more weight. I can only get a maxium of 16 pounds on each one. Which I know right now could give me 10's. But it looks like with each different exercise there would be a different amount of wieght. How do I figure out how to do it right for me? I have the book but still can't figure it out. And then I can only do the exercises that you can use with dumbells. I do not have a gym close to here so that makes it more difficult. However, I am going to start summer school and the gym there is huge. I will get to go for summer but I want to figure this out for the next two weeks. I am starting my second challange this week and want to do better for than my first challange. I also decided to start jumping rope to reach my 10s. I have a gazelle that I had just bought and I can't figure out how to push myself hard enough on it. So I am going to do it for the 6 and 7s and then do jumping jacks for 8 and jump rope for 9. Does that sound good?

Picture with me....I am jogging outside in our community and I am just about to move from a 7 level intensity to an 8 when all of a sudden I see the "arrow". You know the one....telling you to turn this way for great bargains and stuff you don't need for under $1, all piled into someones garage for easy access. I do everything I can to stay on track, but find myself running through some random alleyway desperate to find the next arrow directing me to the sale. And there it is....a wide open garage door inviting me in to look through tables of junk to find that one perfect item.... Oh no, I need to move from 8 to 9 .... I start to pick up the pace, but am I rushing because of my workout or because I see someone grabbing the half broken blender that I am sure I can fix!?! I keep running, closer, closer ..... my watch beeps signalling the end of that minute ... HOORAY! I drop back down to a 6 and gently run by the sale, madly scouring for anything that I think I may need. But by the time I pass by I realize that I don't need anything, I have too much will power to stop! and I am determined to move on and finish my HIIT. Phew I made it! I AM WOMAN!! Only 10 more minutes to go. Oh no ... don't tell me....is that ... another .... arrow????

Regardless of what the doc says about working out, I would definitely focus on the eating. If you put all your energy into eating clean, that will be to your benefit when you are ready to workout again. walking should be okay, but you certainly aren't going to hurt yourself by eating well! And don't forget your vitamins! Good luck! Kim

TAKE IT EASY!! You only have ONE chance to heal properly. go slow. you could start on the eating, then slowly add light weights. By thoughts are all srewed up, I don't know if I am even walking straight. I am sure that the people at the gym think I am a total nut case! I bet braxton didn't get a wink of sleep last night. Sounds like he needs a cold shower. :) Just remember everyone, that it is not how fast you can do it, but that you are constantly improving, pushing yourself to hit your 10's and sometimes the ocassional 11. Thank you, thank you! Well, I tried to log on and tell you all last night that my boss took me out to dinner and I was feeling a bit (but not totally) better about things, but my internet went down and I couldn't. It finally just came back up a few minutes ago. Anyway, she apologized for keeping me in the dark (I'm her assistant program director and in that respect it affects me a bit more than the rest of the staff because I will be the new person's right hand), told me more about what was going on, and so I understand more behind her reasons for leaving and really can't blame her. She also told me that, when my contract is up (in another year), she'll probably try to find a way to bring me to where she is. I'd still like to go to Nashville next, and that's not where she's going, but she will likely end up in a pretty big market and that would be as good for me as it would for her. Well, It's ten o'clock in the morning for me. I got up at 8.30 to have breakfast and go to the gym straight after that. But... look where I am! I thought....just a couple of posts.... Last night I was asked by my hubby to make the bottle of milk for our little one before he went to walk the dog. Ten minutes later... he comes back and the bottle is still in the steriliser... and I think..."I better start getting that bottle ready or he's going to wonder what have I been doing.... just finish reading this thread... but suddenly you have to check in the profiles who said that, and then, you look at how much fat they have lost, and.... six minutes later the bottle is still in the kitchen untouched... and now I should be in the gym and not writing this!!!!! But... I love you guys. And now... I am definitely off!! I'll check on you later, though. LOL Crucky

My husband bought me a laptop so now I can sit on the couch in front of the television and have it all! I have taught my kids how to make toast, pour their own breakfast cereal, feed the animals and dress themselves so I can sit on the tracker just a little longer. I really hope we have internet access in India. How can I go a whole week without you guys?? It will take me a month just to catch up! Maybe someone can read all the threads for each day, then post a summary for me. like, "Cheetara avoided the peanut butter today, and made her workout. Udenia leg pressed 450 pounds and was on Oprah, Tai Kee took pictures of herself in a cute size 2 dress at work, making us all wonder how we can get her job. Big Bull ran 12 miles in 20 minutes, as did all those other nuts in the cardio competition, and TNT won her first fitness competition. Jamber was finally swallowed up by her pile of laundry. No one has heard from her all day so we had to call 911 to go rescue her from under a pile of sweaty workout clothes and dirty underwear. And that was just Day 1!" I would greatly appreciate that!

Body for Life Forum Message by DrHeather67206 (8 posts) at 12:02 AM:
The diet and exercise will be great for both you and your baby. You'll have to eat more than you did pre-pregnancy because it takes extra energy to grow a baby, but you should be able to just listen to your body. The exercise and proper nutrition will help prevent pregnancy induced hypertension and gestational diabetes which should add up to a nice sized baby (not too big, not too small.) Just don't over do it. You can still lift weights and do cardio to your tolerance. The firm rule is no abdominal work once you start getting big. The only real question is whether or not you'll resist the cravings. They really shouldn't be an issue so long as you're eating enough and getting proper nutrition. I assure you from my time doing OB that we wish the ladies did those things.

Body for Life Forum Message by pinkdirt (10 posts) at 12:39 AM:

Oh, me me me! I have tested twice in the past month because I think I am getting my period back (still nursing my 10 month old and haven't seen a period in 19 months!) My husband and I want a large family (we only have 2 so far) and don't use bc for reasons of personal conviction (sorry if that is too much information for anyone, just want to make it clear just how scared/excited I was this past month because I started having symptoms like I was either getting my period or gasp! pregnant!) well as far as I know, I am not, we'll see if I get my period or what..for so long though, I have wanted to have my children close together, then deciding a few months ago that my health is more important and that I needed to lose weight i.e. starting this program. I then became somewhat terrified of getting pregnant (still am) now or anytime soon. But as others have said, if I were to get pregnant in the next six months, I know that I could continue this program at a lesser intensity and keep up the nutrition aspect with small modifications as we go along to things and that eased my mind a bit.. I gained over 70 lbs in my 1st pregnancy and 45 with my 2nd, thats how I got into this weight predicament in the first place, totally let myself go! Whew, ok sorry that got really long, but I can totally relate to not wanting to gain the weight back but from everything I have read, you can safely continue this program (without supplementation like cla and creatine, most things are not safe during pregnancy) and that is good news! Good luck!

my all time favorite - the "yargger" the guy who puts so many weight plates on the leg press, I watch in horror that he may pop a knee cap. each time he presses his feet forward, I hear a very loud, " YYYYEEEEEEeeAAAaaaarrrgggghhhhh!!!" and get this. no muscles are showing, and he must be 40%BF. take it easy, dude! how 'bout the "I'm about to drop this barbell on my face, but don't spot me" guy. can't forget "do every machine in the gym in 20 minutes or less" girl. and of course, the variation of the 3 stooges - These guys do very light weights, and travel from one end of the gym to the other yelling very loudly to each other about what movie they just saw, the cool party last night, who they're dating, etc. annoying. I guess I fit into the "older lady who thinks she's a bodybuilder" category. yeah. I could do that!

Body for Life Forum Message by Monica (540 posts) at 10:14 AM:
I always like the guy who screams when he curls 30 pounds and drops it on the floor like he just lifted the planet earth in one hand. I like him because the last time I took advice from someone here and walked up next to him and curled 35 pounds and didn't make a sound! lol THAT shut him up a bit! Then there is the chick who works out with those 2 pound weights on EVERY BODY PART!! What is she DOING? There is also the chick who is heaver than me (now, I used to be heavier before BFL) she has been coming to the gym daily since January (good for her) with no noticable weight change at all. She works out on the elliptical only. All this is ok, good for her for sticking with it so long. The thing that kills me is this - now remember she has about 30 pounds on me - SHE WEARS A SPANDEX THONG LEOTARD! AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! Why do they even MAKE them in my size? Thats SO WRONG! I could write a book here - lot of weirdos in my gym. There is the guy with flaming red hair who obviously works out to look cool. He has like five friends with him, they all grunt and scream when lifting but they YELL AT EACH OTHER (COME ON YOU PUSSY, DON'T BE SUCH A WOMAN- GET THAT SHIT UP, COME ON BITCH) no kidding (sorry for the swears I hope I didn't offend anyone but thats a direct quote) There is also this schmo who last week, worked out on the ONE MACHINE for like 30 minutes (the weight assisted DIP!) What can you DO for 30 minutes on that! I usually use the dip as my third step of the routine and I had to make it the last step because I finished my ENTIRE ROUTINE by the time this dude finished!! I was ready to smack him!

I might have you all beat! In addition to the regular "characters" I also have "Fringee Guy" and "L'eggs Lady". Fringee is a 40+ year old guy, about 5'5", shaved head, and LOW single digit body fat. This guy is ripped. However, he insists on wearing teeny tiny tight spandex short shorts (with a purple thong I might add) and tank tops that he has cut off the lower half and then cut long strips of fringe into it. You really have to see it to believe it! L'eggs Lady is around 50 and has wild out of control hair with a sweatband to keep it out of her face. She is always drenched in sweat from head to toe and does some strange excercises that reveal more of her than we would like to see! She is not a small woman, and wears tight short shorts with pantyhose. You can always see the top portion of the pantyhose that look different from the lower part (the part that SHOULD be hidden by clothing!). Aren't gyms great!? Why would anyone want to work out at home and miss all this? Stay Strong! Chris

Body for Life Forum Message by Lovey75 (266 posts) at 01:22 PM:
One other guy, "the loud aerobics guy". In the past I have done step aerobics and this older man, probably 50-60's loves to wear spandex shorts and do all the counts really loud and yell woooooooo about every couple minutes. One more while I'm at it. There is this guy that looks just like the oldest Brady boy from the Brady Bunch. Not how he looked then, but how he looks now. He works really hard but I can't stand to see him on the elliptical with arms. He throws his whole body around and it is SOOOOOOOOO distracting and annoying. The treadmills are behind the ellipticals and I have to find one where he is not in my line of sight. He throws my whole work out off. Okay, enough about my gym.

BigBadBen, I call Upper Body Guy "Light Bulb Man" because they are shaped like a light bulb....teehee. My gym is FILLED with those. We have this one guy who is definitely a flaming queen (no disrespect to anyone gay...but this guy is FLAMBOYANT!!). He comes in with his pink, torn sweatshirt (torn in a way that it hangs off one shoulder), his rolled headband (think Olivia Newton John's "Let's Get Physical), his black and teal striped bicycle shorts that hug EVERY bit of his lower body, and his little ankle socks. Oh, I forgot about the wrist bands. He's also this long, curly blond hair that always looks like it's filled with gel. He's been going to my gym for as long as I've been a member (around 7 years) and hasn't changed a bit. That being said, he's an awfully nice guy and very friendly to everyone at the gym. Oh, we can't forget about the pimply-faced, teenage boys who come in with their BRIGHT white tennis shoes (that look like they've never been worn), gold bracelets, backwards hats, and wife-beaters. They yell and scream at each other in a similar manner to what Monica described above, oogle at any women who fit their "ideal woman" (i.e. fake boobs, fake tan, fake nails, lots of makeup, and under 25). They spend more time talking about their great conquest that weekend (which "chick" they "nailed"), how drunk they got, and how fast their car goes rather than concentrating on their workouts. Melanie = )

My gym has plain old "Crazy Lady". Iswear I cant describe her any other way. She is an older woman and every day she wears checkerboard print tights, with shorts over them and a leotard. The outfit is one thing but this is her workout: Place 15 lb dumbbells on shoulders, hold in place with arms. Stand on tippy toes in order to swing elbow up over the bar on the smith machine. Hold. Repeat with other side. Need I say more?

He Thinks It Is Beneath Him To Clean Off His Machine After He Uses It Guy... I stare at him and he must think I'm impressed with his buffness and his back support belt but I'm really trying to give him a signal that what would really impress me is if he would wipe of the BLEEPing machines!!! Our gym has been invaded by all kinds of, might I say, Colorful Beings,... Ms. Fashion Queen, Mr. Hog The Machines, Look At My Tight Butt Woman, Sweatband Diva, I Can Grunt Louder Than You Man, and the list goes on and on. I know all small towns have their characters but I think we may have more than our share.

Janis Misery loves company!!! Are the people making these comments overweight? Do they eat badly or not exercise? When people say things like this it's usually because they feel insecure about themselves. You wanting to become fitter, slimmer, healthier etc, highlights the fact that they too need to address these issues. You are a constant reminder of what they "should" be doing and they don't like it. If they are happy to be unfit or overweight then so be it. But don't let their opinions hinder your progress. He actually told me I could loose weight as long as I didn't loose a whole lot. I politely told him, I didn't need his permission and I was going to do what I need to do to like what I see in the mirror. Well, he's seen my progress so far and actually looked at people's progress on here and although he would never admit it he's getting into it to. The other day he had to cook dinner and actually brought out the Eating for life book. I was so proud. My philosophy is I want to look in the mirror and be excited and happy. at 160lbs I avoided the mirror. I don't care what any one else thinks this isn't about them it's about me and what I think.... I'll play Nina Aeropostle, the distant cousin of Fitch Abercrombie who is insanely jealous of all of his money. Problem is, I am doing the weasling half-assed because I, too, am a closet tracker addict and can't wean myself. You see me snickering with an evil laugh as I infiltrate Fitch's business and then the next minute I get distracted and start ooohing and aaahing over Khubbard's pictures.

So that's it right? muscular failure right? Nope wrong I began to push those suckers up and they felt HEAVY lemme tell ya, but I kept pushing and pushing they slowly seemed to rise (very slowly) it felt like an eternity until I finally got them to the top. Then when they did get to the top I felt my chest "pop" out. Man I gotta tell ya that felt more like an 11 or 12 not a 10. I'm "all in" BIG BULL 100% (maybe even more if that's possible).

I have heard such differing views on this new book. I read through portions and personally found it to be a bit off. I'd love to start a thread of peoples thoughts about it...Should I be implementing BFL Women's concepts as well? Or just leave BFL alone? Let the debate begin.......

Body for Life Forum Message by Go4steffie (157 posts) at 05:23 AM:
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I read the original BFL first and loved it and that is what i followed. I read the BFL for Women around the 9 week mark just to see what it was about and didn't care for it. I definitely think THE BOOK (BILL'S BIBLE) is the best. I don't like how she changed the cardio part either. I am all for BFL, but i think whomever thought of the Women's version was just trying a marketing ploy to make more money. BUT....if it does get more women interested in doing BFL, then i guess it is a good thing......i just think Bill Phillips the "THE MAN" and love his version!!! Stef :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by Tigger (3 posts) at 07:22 AM:
Hi Girls Thanks for the topic. I am holding out to start a challenge until BFL Women hit our country. I can't find the book yet. Im in South Africa. Stef , can youplease give me more onfo on how they changed the cardio. I did do one previous challenge Bill's way a couple of years back. Thanks

Body for Life Forum Message by fitmaggie (27 posts) at 07:29 AM:
I have the book, and it just says 30 minutes of cardio/3 x's a week.

Body for Life Forum Message by Tigger (3 posts) at 07:32 AM:
Thanks :-) Is it Interval training as well.

Body for Life Forum Message by momofthreegirls (474 posts) at 07:45 AM:
I own the book, but haven't read all the way through it yet. I did, however, skip right to the part where she says if you need chocolate, by all means eat a little bit of chocolate! I used to be a gorger, but I have found now that if I give myself permission, I am more likely to stick to one bite, knowing that I can eat another one at a later time. I no longer have that, "Oh I ate one bite of chocolate so the whole day is blown" mentallity!

Body for Life Forum Message by Go4steffie (157 posts) at 08:02 AM:
I borrowed the book from the library, so i no longer have it to refer to. I think it just said to do 30min of cardio 3-5 times a week. I think it did mention interval training as well, but didn't go into depth. I guess if i had any advice to give it would be this....if you are standing in the book store and see both copies of the book infront of you....buy BILL'S BIBLE (as i lovingly call it). it is better written and easier to read and defines the program to "T". my opinion only. I followed the original BFL and got great results.......I doubt you would get "BETTER" results with the BFL for Women. Stef :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by Tigger (3 posts) at 10:40 AM:
Thanks every one!

Body for Life Forum Message by ggrace (30 posts) at 10:57 AM:
I personally cannot do the 'mini chill' as BFL Women states. I can't hold myself to just one little bite of chocolate! I tried it and I went from one bite to the whole bag....too easy for me to slip. I guess you just have to know your body and go with it....I just don't understand the need to write another book? All of the women in the pictures of Bill's book seemed like they got great results doing it the original way? Does that mean there are women out there who didn't have success? That is a stat I would be curious about.

Body for Life Forum Message by Clover (135 posts) at 11:09 AM:
I read and think it is "so-so". It isn't as motivating to me as BFL and even EFL. Actually I was rather disappointed in it. However, I do think that it would be good some women. It is somewhat the same system but uses different wording. The testimonial are inspiring. But overall, Bill's book is much MUCH better.

Body for Life Forum Message by lambchop (5 posts) at 12:44 PM:
I have read both books also.I think BFL is much easier to understand but there are some good things in For Women too. I have only been doing this a week, thanks to the inspiration of my daughter-in-law Jamber. I am liking it a lot and I am expecting to see great results!

Body for Life Forum Message by Monica (540 posts) at 01:06 PM:
I bought the women's book and returned it the next day. I was TOTALLY unimpressed. They changed BFL too much and like I've said before, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Seriously, pay attention to the pictures of women before and after, a lot of those women are on the regular BFL book. That tells me that they worked BFL the OLD FASHIONED way, not the new woman with psycho hair version. Who are they trying to kid!

Body for Life Forum Message by Elsie (174 posts) at 01:05 AM: Yes, you have a right to your opinion, BUT........

Right, I'd like to try and put a stop to all these negative posts right now. I'm writing this in bold because I am soooooo mad!!!!

Why has the need suddenly arisen to attack people in the Top 20? This is the last place I thought I'd find people sabotaging the progress of other.

No one in the Top 20 should feel the need to justify his or her position. It makes me so mad when I read posts from people who feel they don't have the right to be there. You are there because people on this site have been inspired by something you have said or done.

Transformations are happening on the inside as well as out and so many people here have improved their lives as well as their bodies.

Constructive criticism is a must if we ALL want to achieve our goals, but there is no need to attack people publicly for doing well.  Use some discretion and PM them, don't humiliate them in a thread.

Focus on your own goals and put the negative energy you're trying to spread here into your WO - that way you too might see outstanding results.

Right I'm done........Exhale......

Body for Life Forum Message by Tina (4 posts) at 01:54 AM: Coming out of the shadows
Hello everyone! I have been a spectator for too long. It is time to come out of the shadows and join the team. I have been reading these forums and watching all of you transform your bodies for months. You are all wonderful people and I feel like I already know most of you. You are all so supportive and encouraging of one another. I guess it's time to admit that I can't do this on my own and I need some encouragement. I have been doing BFL off and on for years. I saw great results, but quit before I could achieve my goals. I have since gained it all back. I have been back on BFL for the most part since January but very frustrated that I have not seen many results. I admit that until 2 weeks ago I had not been following it perfectly but I thought I should have seen some results after 4 months. I had been going to curves 3-4 times a week, weight training off and on and my eating habits have changed drastically since the first of the year. I am beginning to think there is something wrong with me. I am seeing some muscle definition but all my clothes fit exactly the same and the scale hasn't budged and measurements have only moved a tiny bit. I am not giving up, though. Something has got to give soon or I am going to scream. My husband thinks it is because I don't eat enough. I do have a hard time getting in more than 3 or 4 meals in a day. I just get busy and forget to eat and I have a very small appetite. Anyway, thanks for listening. Sorry this is so long. You guys are great! P.S. I only have 4 months until Cabo. HELP!

Okay, first things first...do you have the BFL and EFL books? If you don't run (don't walk) to your local Walmart, bookstore, online, or wherever you can get them. They are the "bibles." If you only do part of the program, you will only see part of the results. Granted, eating BFL/EFL style is 80% of the battle; however, you NEED to do the workouts in order to feel the difference. I am talking mentally and physically. We are here to support you. Once you take that first leap of faith, you will be glad that you did.....and.....you will never turn back. BTW, your hubby is right! You need to consume your 6 meals/day (and drink water until your eyeballs are floating). They are not huge meals, so you can do it.

Hi Tina, Welcome to the nut house!! (Opps, did I say that?) LOL, just kidding!! You will find tons of support and encouragement here, from lots of great people. By the way, I have the same problem with remembering to eat. I cook in bulk on Sundays and package it in meal sized portions so I don't need to waste time cooking each meal, just pop in the microwave. (I'm soon going to need another fridge just for my BFL stuff!). I bought a little alarm clock at Walmart and when I eat a meal, I set it to go off when I need the next one! My husband thought it was pretty sad to need an alarm to remind you to eat, but it's been working great so far.!!!. Good Luck!!

Tina, I too went to Curves for several months, but eventually it just wasn't challenging enough for me so I joined the gym instead. the cardio part of BFL can't be accomplished at Curves so you may need to find another way to do it. Can you walk or run outside? Running, biking, and the cross trainers seem to bring th most results for people. Welcome! and i hope you find all the encouragement and support you need to be successful! Kim

Thank you all for your words of encouragement and support.I do not have the EFL book yet, but I see you guys talk about all the wonderful recipes from it all the time. I will get one. I think I will give up curves. I do have a stationary bike I use often and when the weather permits I would like to start running. I will probably have to start with a jog/ walk routine for a while. I did try jogging last week and could only go 3 minutes before I thought I was going to die. My chest hurt so bad. I am in such bad shape. I would like to get a tread mill so I don't have to rely on the weather. Thanks Again, Tina

I hear a tap on the press and look up to see him. He said "Your missing something." So I look at him and then back at the press. "No the press is fine, You need to go eat i can finish up, no dont argue I can see this thing your doing is improtant to you, so go eat a little work wont kill me." I was awe struck frist that he was actualy listening to what i had to say and the he made sure i got my meal. Jim, too funny! What was my life like before the tracker....hmmm, couldn't have been as fulfilling since I didn't have all of you in my life! Monica, I keep pressing the refresh button too. Oh God, this is getting out of control. I'm starting to multi task though. This morning I made a protein shake, cleaned up my whole place, did the laundry and still kept up with the tracker

Monica, Your just too funny, but I am a trackeraholic as well, I can not go one day without getting on and if something is exciting going on, heck I am on every hour because I work at a desk, it is easy for me to flip back and forth between work and my other LIFE!

Body for Life Forum Message by cruz9095 (174 posts) at 09:26 AM: One Goal Down, four to go!
I have never been a runner, and I have never been fast.  Back when I played football I was an offensive lineman.  Coaches were more interested in my being a brick wall than being fast.  The fastest mile I had ever run was about 12 minutes.  Strength was never a problem, speed just wouldn't come.

One of my goals for this challenge was a 10 minute mile.  I know many of you are faster, but this is faster than I've ever been before.

At any rate, I did it!!!!!!!!

My ten minute mile happened between 8:02 and 8:12 this morning.

One goal down, four to go!  I'm "all in" today!!!!!

Good Morning everyone...Happy Saturday. Got all measured and weighed and took my week 8 photos. Didn't lose any weight from week 7 to 8, but still losing inches. I feel great...and I think the pictures reflect that. I love the way I feel...really strong and HAPPY!!! I love being able to come to BFL tracker and read/talk to my fellow BFLers. Thanks to everyone for the continued support and laughs. Ya'll have kept me sane (sometimes insane too!!). So far, during this challenge, I have endured a few minor injuries, but continued on strong. I also had a major happening in my life.... I GOT ENGAGED!! I am getting married in December in Kauai (Booty Babe...you near Kauai??), so of course there was some celebrating going on around the engagement time. Anyhow..enough chatting. Thanks everyone for your continued support. I would not be able to do this without you guys. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Thread: Is it Splenda that gives laxitive effect? (64 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Lovey75 (266 posts) at 10:17 AM: Is it Splenda that gives laxitive effect?
I know sugar free candy can really wreak havoc on the body. DON'T EVER TRY EATING A WHOLE BAG OF SUGAR FREE JELLY BEANS! ESPECIALLY AT WORK! Is it the sugar substitute or something else that causes the problems? I made toast this morning with cinnamon and Splenda and was wondering if I'm going to have problems the rest of the day now.

Body for Life Forum Message by RedJen (57 posts) at 10:21 AM:
I was reading in my oxygen mag this morning that splenda just goes through you so don't eat large amounts of it. I have had a bad tummy ache from eating too many sugar free candies so I stopped buying them!:P

Body for Life Forum Message by braxtontaigu (187 posts) at 10:54 AM:
Yeah, I noticed this when I drank a Diet Coke w/Splenda. It was tasty, but I shouldn't have had all 20 oz. at one time! yikes.

Body for Life Forum Message by supergirl (212 posts) at 12:04 PM:
yes it does that to me too. if you just put a bit on your toast though i think you should be fine.

Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (1250 posts) at 01:01 PM:
oh, that's the problem, Hubbby made me some kool-aid with Splenda and I didn't drink it,( stick to my water) but my daughter did and she has been going all week, like 2 to 3 times a day, it's all the splenda in the koolaid, and she is just drinking away, hehehehe wait til I tell her, oh my!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by ICU_RN (464 posts) at 01:13 PM:
Sugar alcohols (the stuff in sugar free candy) will cause a lot of GI problems in some people. It doesn't affect me too much, but some will bloat up, get gas, and have diarrhea. I don't think it's Splenda, as that's nothing more than a derivative of sucrose. But the stuff like mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, lactitol, isomalt, and maltitol can do it to you! Here is a great article from Yale on sugar alcohols: http://www.ynhh.org/online/nutrition/advisor/sugar_alcohol.html Melanie = )

Body for Life Forum Message by Rie (296 posts) at 01:39 PM:
it's maltitol....if I eat anything with that stuff in it, in about a half an hour I look like Violet Beauregarde...you could roll me out the door...I really should quit eating that stuff...someday.

I am a newbie and have found out just how much this tracker website and all of your help is needed. I also purchased Bill's Success Journal. Couldn't live without that either. I am just finishing week #1. I have learned more about nutrition and fitness in 1 week than I think I knew in my prior 33 years of existence. My mom is 65 and I stop out to see her pretty often. She isn't going to take BFL up anytime soon, however, I have educated her to watch her sodium intake, to read labels, etc. Now when I stop out, she always has something new to show me! How she bought low sodium this/that. When I stop out for supper she plans a EFL meal for me and she eats one as well. A few nights ago, she had a grilled skinless chicken breast, steamed veggies and barley. :-) We all can help other's!!!!!!!! I am out!!! Have to get back to work. .but thanks to everyone for being my daily inspiration and proving that all this hardwork and effort will produce results!!! Make it a great day! DJB
