Running is my other cardio... been doing since high school, and I'll definitely vouch for a proper fit. Running surface and how your feet are aligned are also factors... not to mention price sometimes when picking a shoe. A good place to find out what shoe is right for you is at Roadrunnersports.com. They have a "Shoe Dog" analyzer that accounts for just about everything... weekly distance, pronation, terrain, and activity level. Shoe Dog then picks possible shoes for you. Turns out I need an "all terrain" type shoe. Been through most brands... haven't had a pair of Brooks yet. They sound comfy!

T - I agree with Tai 100%!!!!! On the other hand I started almost 18 weeks ago at 134. I'm down to 125 only (and I'm not even sure yet if thats a comfy 125, just low for me). But thats also 3 sizes. What is with that 131? I stayed there forever. And when I get bloated, PMS I always go back to the effin 131. So you've hit a nerve with me! But then......................all of a sudden after weeks it dropped. Why did it take so long??????? Enlighten me if you can. Hold on tight TNT it's going to be an exciting ride!!!!! Tracey

Do you only drink on lifting days? what is everyone's preference? Thanks Toni

Body for Life Forum Message by LauraN (11 posts) at 02:15 PM:
I drink myoplex lite almost everyday except for my cheat days. I use it as one of my meals it's fast and easy.

Body for Life Forum Message by WontGiveUp (42 posts) at 02:17 PM:
Toni-- I drink a shake every day in the morning after working out (1-hour later) because I am not a big morning eater:) On the weekend I will cook a meal instead when I have more time too. Then I have a Myoplex Lite bar for my second meal of the day because as a teacher, I don't get a break without kids until 11:30, so it is not easy to eat a whole food meal around them. The rest of the day it works out for me to eat whole food meals. Sometimes I even have shake before bed. You can safely and effectively use Myoplex Lite products three times a day. Whether you lift or do cardio has not effect on whether you should have a shake or not. Hope that helps!

Body for Life Forum Message by toni220 (89 posts) at 02:24 PM:
Thanks because I actually forgot my meals this morning and had to myoplex lite shakes here at work. My mom brought my food but I had a shake for breakfast due to nothing else around and then for snack later as usual.

I said I ate this yesterday and people were asking what it is. Here is a recipe for it. I've never made it, but I've had it many times. It is so good, and so bad for you. Enjoy! 1 Twelve oz bag chocolate chips 1/2 cup peanut butter 9 cups Rice Chex Cereal 2 cups Powdered Sugar Put powdered sugar in a large brown bag (such as a grocery bag). Put aside. Spread out rice chex cereal on waxed paper. Melt chocolate chips and peanut butter together and pour over the cereal. Put cereal (while still hot from mixture)in bag with sugar and shake. Put in bowl and serve. "WARNING: Only give this to your children when they are going over to Grandma's. It's full of sugar and can produce hyper children!!!"

I occasionally get on the bike for mine. If I'm having to work out at the fire station then it's either the bike or the nasty, cheap, & beat up treadmill at the station. Otherwise I'll use the bike at the gym just for something different that's fairly low impact on my knees.

I have a big problem hitting 10s with my weights. First off I dont know how much weight I need to start with to get 5, then 6, and so on. I only have dumbells and I kept buying more weight. I can only get a maxium of 16 pounds on each one. Which I know right now could give me 10's. But it looks like with each different exercise there would be a different amount of wieght. How do I figure out how to do it right for me? I have the book but still can't figure it out. And then I can only do the exercises that you can use with dumbells. I do not have a gym close to here so that makes it more difficult. However, I am going to start summer school and the gym there is huge. I will get to go for summer but I want to figure this out for the next two weeks. I am starting my second challange this week and want to do better for than my first challange. I also decided to start jumping rope to reach my 10s. I have a gazelle that I had just bought and I can't figure out how to push myself hard enough on it. So I am going to do it for the 6 and 7s and then do jumping jacks for 8 and jump rope for 9. Does that sound good?

Picture with me....I am jogging outside in our community and I am just about to move from a 7 level intensity to an 8 when all of a sudden I see the "arrow". You know the one....telling you to turn this way for great bargains and stuff you don't need for under $1, all piled into someones garage for easy access. I do everything I can to stay on track, but find myself running through some random alleyway desperate to find the next arrow directing me to the sale. And there it is....a wide open garage door inviting me in to look through tables of junk to find that one perfect item.... Oh no, I need to move from 8 to 9 .... I start to pick up the pace, but am I rushing because of my workout or because I see someone grabbing the half broken blender that I am sure I can fix!?! I keep running, closer, closer ..... my watch beeps signalling the end of that minute ... HOORAY! I drop back down to a 6 and gently run by the sale, madly scouring for anything that I think I may need. But by the time I pass by I realize that I don't need anything, I have too much will power to stop! and I am determined to move on and finish my HIIT. Phew I made it! I AM WOMAN!! Only 10 more minutes to go. Oh no ... don't tell me....is that ... another .... arrow????

Regardless of what the doc says about working out, I would definitely focus on the eating. If you put all your energy into eating clean, that will be to your benefit when you are ready to workout again. walking should be okay, but you certainly aren't going to hurt yourself by eating well! And don't forget your vitamins! Good luck! Kim

TAKE IT EASY!! You only have ONE chance to heal properly. go slow. you could start on the eating, then slowly add light weights. Sounds like he needs a cold shower. :) Just remember everyone, that it is not how fast you can do it, but that you are constantly improving, pushing yourself to hit your 10's and sometimes the ocassional 11. Thank you, thank you! Well, I tried to log on and tell you all last night that my boss took me out to dinner and I was feeling a bit (but not totally) better about things, but my internet went down and I couldn't. It finally just came back up a few minutes ago. Anyway, she apologized for keeping me in the dark (I'm her assistant program director and in that respect it affects me a bit more than the rest of the staff because I will be the new person's right hand), told me more about what was going on, and so I understand more behind her reasons for leaving and really can't blame her. She also told me that, when my contract is up (in another year), she'll probably try to find a way to bring me to where she is. I'd still like to go to Nashville next, and that's not where she's going, but she will likely end up in a pretty big market and that would be as good for me as it would for her. Well, It's ten o'clock in the morning for me. I got up at 8.30 to have breakfast and go to the gym straight after that. But... look where I am! I thought....just a couple of posts.... Last night I was asked by my hubby to make the bottle of milk for our little one before he went to walk the dog. Ten minutes later... he comes back and the bottle is still in the steriliser... and I think..."I better start getting that bottle ready or he's going to wonder what have I been doing.... just finish reading this thread... but suddenly you have to check in the profiles who said that, and then, you look at how much fat they have lost, and.... six minutes later the bottle is still in the kitchen untouched... and now I should be in the gym and not writing this!!!!! But... I love you guys. And now... I am definitely off!! I'll check on you later, though. LOL Crucky

My husband bought me a laptop so now I can sit on the couch in front of the television and have it all! I have taught my kids how to make toast, pour their own breakfast cereal, feed the animals and dress themselves so I can sit on the tracker just a little longer. I really hope we have internet access in India. How can I go a whole week without you guys?? It will take me a month just to catch up! Maybe someone can read all the threads for each day, then post a summary for me. like, "Cheetara avoided the peanut butter today, and made her workout. Udenia leg pressed 450 pounds and was on Oprah, Tai Kee took pictures of herself in a cute size 2 dress at work, making us all wonder how we can get her job. Big Bull ran 12 miles in 20 minutes, as did all those other nuts in the cardio competition, and TNT won her first fitness competition. Jamber was finally swallowed up by her pile of laundry. No one has heard from her all day so we had to call 911 to go rescue her from under a pile of sweaty workout clothes and dirty underwear. And that was just Day 1!" I would greatly appreciate that!

Body for Life Forum Message by DrHeather67206 (8 posts) at 12:02 AM:
The diet and exercise will be great for both you and your baby. You'll have to eat more than you did pre-pregnancy because it takes extra energy to grow a baby, but you should be able to just listen to your body. The exercise and proper nutrition will help prevent pregnancy induced hypertension and gestational diabetes which should add up to a nice sized baby (not too big, not too small.) Just don't over do it. You can still lift weights and do cardio to your tolerance. The firm rule is no abdominal work once you start getting big. The only real question is whether or not you'll resist the cravings. They really shouldn't be an issue so long as you're eating enough and getting proper nutrition. I assure you from my time doing OB that we wish the ladies did those things.

Body for Life Forum Message by pinkdirt (10 posts) at 12:39 AM:

Oh, me me me! I have tested twice in the past month because I think I am getting my period back (still nursing my 10 month old and haven't seen a period in 19 months!) My husband and I want a large family (we only have 2 so far) and don't use bc for reasons of personal conviction (sorry if that is too much information for anyone, just want to make it clear just how scared/excited I was this past month because I started having symptoms like I was either getting my period or gasp! pregnant!) well as far as I know, I am not, we'll see if I get my period or what..for so long though, I have wanted to have my children close together, then deciding a few months ago that my health is more important and that I needed to lose weight i.e. starting this program. I then became somewhat terrified of getting pregnant (still am) now or anytime soon. But as others have said, if I were to get pregnant in the next six months, I know that I could continue this program at a lesser intensity and keep up the nutrition aspect with small modifications as we go along to things and that eased my mind a bit.. I gained over 70 lbs in my 1st pregnancy and 45 with my 2nd, thats how I got into this weight predicament in the first place, totally let myself go! Whew, ok sorry that got really long, but I can totally relate to not wanting to gain the weight back but from everything I have read, you can safely continue this program (without supplementation like cla and creatine, most things are not safe during pregnancy) and that is good news! Good luck!

my all time favorite - the "yargger" the guy who puts so many weight plates on the leg press, I watch in horror that he may pop a knee cap. each time he presses his feet forward, I hear a very loud, " YYYYEEEEEEeeAAAaaaarrrgggghhhhh!!!" and get this. no muscles are showing, and he must be 40%BF. take it easy, dude! how 'bout the "I'm about to drop this barbell on my face, but don't spot me" guy. can't forget "do every machine in the gym in 20 minutes or less" girl. and of course, the variation of the 3 stooges - These guys do very light weights, and travel from one end of the gym to the other yelling very loudly to each other about what movie they just saw, the cool party last night, who they're dating, etc. annoying. I guess I fit into the "older lady who thinks she's a bodybuilder" category. yeah. I could do that!

Body for Life Forum Message by Monica (540 posts) at 10:14 AM:
I always like the guy who screams when he curls 30 pounds and drops it on the floor like he just lifted the planet earth in one hand. I like him because the last time I took advice from someone here and walked up next to him and curled 35 pounds and didn't make a sound! lol THAT shut him up a bit! Then there is the chick who works out with those 2 pound weights on EVERY BODY PART!! What is she DOING? There is also the chick who is heaver than me (now, I used to be heavier before BFL) she has been coming to the gym daily since January (good for her) with no noticable weight change at all. She works out on the elliptical only. All this is ok, good for her for sticking with it so long. The thing that kills me is this - now remember she has about 30 pounds on me - SHE WEARS A SPANDEX THONG LEOTARD! AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! Why do they even MAKE them in my size? Thats SO WRONG! I could write a book here - lot of weirdos in my gym. There is the guy with flaming red hair who obviously works out to look cool. He has like five friends with him, they all grunt and scream when lifting but they YELL AT EACH OTHER (COME ON YOU PUSSY, DON'T BE SUCH A WOMAN- GET THAT SHIT UP, COME ON BITCH) no kidding (sorry for the swears I hope I didn't offend anyone but thats a direct quote) There is also this schmo who last week, worked out on the ONE MACHINE for like 30 minutes (the weight assisted DIP!) What can you DO for 30 minutes on that! I usually use the dip as my third step of the routine and I had to make it the last step because I finished my ENTIRE ROUTINE by the time this dude finished!! I was ready to smack him!

I might have you all beat! In addition to the regular "characters" I also have "Fringee Guy" and "L'eggs Lady". Fringee is a 40+ year old guy, about 5'5", shaved head, and LOW single digit body fat. This guy is ripped. However, he insists on wearing teeny tiny tight spandex short shorts (with a purple thong I might add) and tank tops that he has cut off the lower half and then cut long strips of fringe into it. You really have to see it to believe it! L'eggs Lady is around 50 and has wild out of control hair with a sweatband to keep it out of her face. She is always drenched in sweat from head to toe and does some strange excercises that reveal more of her than we would like to see! She is not a small woman, and wears tight short shorts with pantyhose. You can always see the top portion of the pantyhose that look different from the lower part (the part that SHOULD be hidden by clothing!). Aren't gyms great!? Why would anyone want to work out at home and miss all this? Stay Strong! Chris

Body for Life Forum Message by Lovey75 (266 posts) at 01:22 PM:
One other guy, "the loud aerobics guy". In the past I have done step aerobics and this older man, probably 50-60's loves to wear spandex shorts and do all the counts really loud and yell woooooooo about every couple minutes. One more while I'm at it. There is this guy that looks just like the oldest Brady boy from the Brady Bunch. Not how he looked then, but how he looks now. He works really hard but I can't stand to see him on the elliptical with arms. He throws his whole body around and it is SOOOOOOOOO distracting and annoying. The treadmills are behind the ellipticals and I have to find one where he is not in my line of sight. He throws my whole work out off. Okay, enough about my gym.

BigBadBen, I call Upper Body Guy "Light Bulb Man" because they are shaped like a light bulb....teehee. My gym is FILLED with those. We have this one guy who is definitely a flaming queen (no disrespect to anyone gay...but this guy is FLAMBOYANT!!). He comes in with his pink, torn sweatshirt (torn in a way that it hangs off one shoulder), his rolled headband (think Olivia Newton John's "Let's Get Physical), his black and teal striped bicycle shorts that hug EVERY bit of his lower body, and his little ankle socks. Oh, I forgot about the wrist bands. He's also this long, curly blond hair that always looks like it's filled with gel. He's been going to my gym for as long as I've been a member (around 7 years) and hasn't changed a bit. That being said, he's an awfully nice guy and very friendly to everyone at the gym. Oh, we can't forget about the pimply-faced, teenage boys who come in with their BRIGHT white tennis shoes (that look like they've never been worn), gold bracelets, backwards hats, and wife-beaters. They yell and scream at each other in a similar manner to what Monica described above, oogle at any women who fit their "ideal woman" (i.e. fake boobs, fake tan, fake nails, lots of makeup, and under 25). They spend more time talking about their great conquest that weekend (which "chick" they "nailed"), how drunk they got, and how fast their car goes rather than concentrating on their workouts. Melanie = )

My gym has plain old "Crazy Lady". Iswear I cant describe her any other way. She is an older woman and every day she wears checkerboard print tights, with shorts over them and a leotard. The outfit is one thing but this is her workout: Place 15 lb dumbbells on shoulders, hold in place with arms. Stand on tippy toes in order to swing elbow up over the bar on the smith machine. Hold. Repeat with other side. Need I say more?

He Thinks It Is Beneath Him To Clean Off His Machine After He Uses It Guy... I stare at him and he must think I'm impressed with his buffness and his back support belt but I'm really trying to give him a signal that what would really impress me is if he would wipe of the BLEEPing machines!!! Our gym has been invaded by all kinds of, might I say, Colorful Beings,... Ms. Fashion Queen, Mr. Hog The Machines, Look At My Tight Butt Woman, Sweatband Diva, I Can Grunt Louder Than You Man, and the list goes on and on. I know all small towns have their characters but I think we may have more than our share.

Janis Misery loves company!!! Are the people making these comments overweight? Do they eat badly or not exercise? When people say things like this it's usually because they feel insecure about themselves. You wanting to become fitter, slimmer, healthier etc, highlights the fact that they too need to address these issues. You are a constant reminder of what they "should" be doing and they don't like it. If they are happy to be unfit or overweight then so be it. But don't let their opinions hinder your progress. He actually told me I could loose weight as long as I didn't loose a whole lot. I politely told him, I didn't need his permission and I was going to do what I need to do to like what I see in the mirror. Well, he's seen my progress so far and actually looked at people's progress on here and although he would never admit it he's getting into it to. The other day he had to cook dinner and actually brought out the Eating for life book. I was so proud. My philosophy is I want to look in the mirror and be excited and happy. at 160lbs I avoided the mirror. I don't care what any one else thinks this isn't about them it's about me and what I think.... I'll play Nina Aeropostle, the distant cousin of Fitch Abercrombie who is insanely jealous of all of his money. Problem is, I am doing the weasling half-assed because I, too, am a closet tracker addict and can't wean myself. You see me snickering with an evil laugh as I infiltrate Fitch's business and then the next minute I get distracted and start ooohing and aaahing over Khubbard's pictures.

So that's it right? muscular failure right? Nope wrong I began to push those suckers up and they felt HEAVY lemme tell ya, but I kept pushing and pushing they slowly seemed to rise (very slowly) it felt like an eternity until I finally got them to the top. Then when they did get to the top I felt my chest "pop" out. Man I gotta tell ya that felt more like an 11 or 12 not a 10. I'm "all in" BIG BULL 100% (maybe even more if that's possible).

I have heard such differing views on this new book. I read through portions and personally found it to be a bit off. I'd love to start a thread of peoples thoughts about it...Should I be implementing BFL Women's concepts as well? Or just leave BFL alone? Let the debate begin.......

Body for Life Forum Message by Go4steffie (157 posts) at 05:23 AM:
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I read the original BFL first and loved it and that is what i followed. I read the BFL for Women around the 9 week mark just to see what it was about and didn't care for it. I definitely think THE BOOK (BILL'S BIBLE) is the best. I don't like how she changed the cardio part either. I am all for BFL, but i think whomever thought of the Women's version was just trying a marketing ploy to make more money. BUT....if it does get more women interested in doing BFL, then i guess it is a good thing......i just think Bill Phillips the "THE MAN" and love his version!!! Stef :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by Tigger (3 posts) at 07:22 AM:
Hi Girls Thanks for the topic. I am holding out to start a challenge until BFL Women hit our country. I can't find the book yet. Im in South Africa. Stef , can youplease give me more onfo on how they changed the cardio. I did do one previous challenge Bill's way a couple of years back. Thanks

Body for Life Forum Message by fitmaggie (27 posts) at 07:29 AM:
I have the book, and it just says 30 minutes of cardio/3 x's a week.

Body for Life Forum Message by Tigger (3 posts) at 07:32 AM:
Thanks :-) Is it Interval training as well.

Body for Life Forum Message by momofthreegirls (474 posts) at 07:45 AM:
I own the book, but haven't read all the way through it yet. I did, however, skip right to the part where she says if you need chocolate, by all means eat a little bit of chocolate! I used to be a gorger, but I have found now that if I give myself permission, I am more likely to stick to one bite, knowing that I can eat another one at a later time. I no longer have that, "Oh I ate one bite of chocolate so the whole day is blown" mentallity!

Body for Life Forum Message by Go4steffie (157 posts) at 08:02 AM:
I borrowed the book from the library, so i no longer have it to refer to. I think it just said to do 30min of cardio 3-5 times a week. I think it did mention interval training as well, but didn't go into depth. I guess if i had any advice to give it would be this....if you are standing in the book store and see both copies of the book infront of you....buy BILL'S BIBLE (as i lovingly call it). it is better written and easier to read and defines the program to "T". my opinion only. I followed the original BFL and got great results.......I doubt you would get "BETTER" results with the BFL for Women. Stef :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by Tigger (3 posts) at 10:40 AM:
Thanks every one!

Body for Life Forum Message by ggrace (30 posts) at 10:57 AM:
I personally cannot do the 'mini chill' as BFL Women states. I can't hold myself to just one little bite of chocolate! I tried it and I went from one bite to the whole bag....too easy for me to slip. I guess you just have to know your body and go with it....I just don't understand the need to write another book? All of the women in the pictures of Bill's book seemed like they got great results doing it the original way? Does that mean there are women out there who didn't have success? That is a stat I would be curious about.

Body for Life Forum Message by Clover (135 posts) at 11:09 AM:
I read and think it is "so-so". It isn't as motivating to me as BFL and even EFL. Actually I was rather disappointed in it. However, I do think that it would be good some women. It is somewhat the same system but uses different wording. The testimonial are inspiring. But overall, Bill's book is much MUCH better.

Body for Life Forum Message by lambchop (5 posts) at 12:44 PM:
I have read both books also.I think BFL is much easier to understand but there are some good things in For Women too. I have only been doing this a week, thanks to the inspiration of my daughter-in-law Jamber. I am liking it a lot and I am expecting to see great results!

Body for Life Forum Message by Monica (540 posts) at 01:06 PM:
I bought the women's book and returned it the next day. I was TOTALLY unimpressed. They changed BFL too much and like I've said before, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Seriously, pay attention to the pictures of women before and after, a lot of those women are on the regular BFL book. That tells me that they worked BFL the OLD FASHIONED way, not the new woman with psycho hair version. Who are they trying to kid!

Body for Life Forum Message by Elsie (174 posts) at 01:05 AM: Yes, you have a right to your opinion, BUT........

Right, I'd like to try and put a stop to all these negative posts right now. I'm writing this in bold because I am soooooo mad!!!!

Why has the need suddenly arisen to attack people in the Top 20? This is the last place I thought I'd find people sabotaging the progress of other.

No one in the Top 20 should feel the need to justify his or her position. It makes me so mad when I read posts from people who feel they don't have the right to be there. You are there because people on this site have been inspired by something you have said or done.

Transformations are happening on the inside as well as out and so many people here have improved their lives as well as their bodies.

Constructive criticism is a must if we ALL want to achieve our goals, but there is no need to attack people publicly for doing well.  Use some discretion and PM them, don't humiliate them in a thread.

Focus on your own goals and put the negative energy you're trying to spread here into your WO - that way you too might see outstanding results.

Right I'm done........Exhale......

Body for Life Forum Message by Tina (4 posts) at 01:54 AM: Coming out of the shadows
Hello everyone! I have been a spectator for too long. It is time to come out of the shadows and join the team. I have been reading these forums and watching all of you transform your bodies for months. You are all wonderful people and I feel like I already know most of you. You are all so supportive and encouraging of one another. I guess it's time to admit that I can't do this on my own and I need some encouragement. I have been doing BFL off and on for years. I saw great results, but quit before I could achieve my goals. I have since gained it all back. I have been back on BFL for the most part since January but very frustrated that I have not seen many results. I admit that until 2 weeks ago I had not been following it perfectly but I thought I should have seen some results after 4 months. I had been going to curves 3-4 times a week, weight training off and on and my eating habits have changed drastically since the first of the year. I am beginning to think there is something wrong with me. I am seeing some muscle definition but all my clothes fit exactly the same and the scale hasn't budged and measurements have only moved a tiny bit. I am not giving up, though. Something has got to give soon or I am going to scream. My husband thinks it is because I don't eat enough. I do have a hard time getting in more than 3 or 4 meals in a day. I just get busy and forget to eat and I have a very small appetite. Anyway, thanks for listening. Sorry this is so long. You guys are great! P.S. I only have 4 months until Cabo. HELP!

Okay, first things first...do you have the BFL and EFL books? If you don't run (don't walk) to your local Walmart, bookstore, online, or wherever you can get them. They are the "bibles." If you only do part of the program, you will only see part of the results. Granted, eating BFL/EFL style is 80% of the battle; however, you NEED to do the workouts in order to feel the difference. I am talking mentally and physically. We are here to support you. Once you take that first leap of faith, you will be glad that you did.....and.....you will never turn back. BTW, your hubby is right! You need to consume your 6 meals/day (and drink water until your eyeballs are floating). They are not huge meals, so you can do it.

Hi Tina, Welcome to the nut house!! (Opps, did I say that?) LOL, just kidding!! You will find tons of support and encouragement here, from lots of great people. By the way, I have the same problem with remembering to eat. I cook in bulk on Sundays and package it in meal sized portions so I don't need to waste time cooking each meal, just pop in the microwave. (I'm soon going to need another fridge just for my BFL stuff!). I bought a little alarm clock at Walmart and when I eat a meal, I set it to go off when I need the next one! My husband thought it was pretty sad to need an alarm to remind you to eat, but it's been working great so far.!!!. Good Luck!!

Tina, I too went to Curves for several months, but eventually it just wasn't challenging enough for me so I joined the gym instead. the cardio part of BFL can't be accomplished at Curves so you may need to find another way to do it. Can you walk or run outside? Running, biking, and the cross trainers seem to bring th most results for people. Welcome! and i hope you find all the encouragement and support you need to be successful! Kim

Thank you all for your words of encouragement and support.I do not have the EFL book yet, but I see you guys talk about all the wonderful recipes from it all the time. I will get one. I think I will give up curves. I do have a stationary bike I use often and when the weather permits I would like to start running. I will probably have to start with a jog/ walk routine for a while. I did try jogging last week and could only go 3 minutes before I thought I was going to die. My chest hurt so bad. I am in such bad shape. I would like to get a tread mill so I don't have to rely on the weather. Thanks Again, Tina

I hear a tap on the press and look up to see him. He said "Your missing something." So I look at him and then back at the press. "No the press is fine, You need to go eat i can finish up, no dont argue I can see this thing your doing is improtant to you, so go eat a little work wont kill me." I was awe struck frist that he was actualy listening to what i had to say and the he made sure i got my meal. Body for Life Forum Message by cruz9095 (174 posts) at 09:26 AM: One Goal Down, four to go!
I have never been a runner, and I have never been fast.  Back when I played football I was an offensive lineman.  Coaches were more interested in my being a brick wall than being fast.  The fastest mile I had ever run was about 12 minutes.  Strength was never a problem, speed just wouldn't come.

One of my goals for this challenge was a 10 minute mile.  I know many of you are faster, but this is faster than I've ever been before.

At any rate, I did it!!!!!!!!

My ten minute mile happened between 8:02 and 8:12 this morning.

One goal down, four to go!  I'm "all in" today!!!!!

Good Morning everyone...Happy Saturday. Got all measured and weighed and took my week 8 photos. Didn't lose any weight from week 7 to 8, but still losing inches. I feel great...and I think the pictures reflect that. I love the way I feel...really strong and HAPPY!!! I love being able to come to BFL tracker and read/talk to my fellow BFLers. Thanks to everyone for the continued support and laughs. Ya'll have kept me sane (sometimes insane too!!). So far, during this challenge, I have endured a few minor injuries, but continued on strong. I also had a major happening in my life.... I GOT ENGAGED!! I am getting married in December in Kauai (Booty Babe...you near Kauai??), so of course there was some celebrating going on around the engagement time. Anyhow..enough chatting. Thanks everyone for your continued support. I would not be able to do this without you guys. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Thread: Is it Splenda that gives laxitive effect? (64 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Lovey75 (266 posts) at 10:17 AM: Is it Splenda that gives laxitive effect?
I know sugar free candy can really wreak havoc on the body. DON'T EVER TRY EATING A WHOLE BAG OF SUGAR FREE JELLY BEANS! ESPECIALLY AT WORK! Is it the sugar substitute or something else that causes the problems? I made toast this morning with cinnamon and Splenda and was wondering if I'm going to have problems the rest of the day now.

Body for Life Forum Message by RedJen (57 posts) at 10:21 AM:
I was reading in my oxygen mag this morning that splenda just goes through you so don't eat large amounts of it. I have had a bad tummy ache from eating too many sugar free candies so I stopped buying them!:P

Body for Life Forum Message by braxtontaigu (187 posts) at 10:54 AM:
Yeah, I noticed this when I drank a Diet Coke w/Splenda. It was tasty, but I shouldn't have had all 20 oz. at one time! yikes.

Body for Life Forum Message by supergirl (212 posts) at 12:04 PM:
yes it does that to me too. if you just put a bit on your toast though i think you should be fine.

Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (1250 posts) at 01:01 PM:
oh, that's the problem, Hubbby made me some kool-aid with Splenda and I didn't drink it,( stick to my water) but my daughter did and she has been going all week, like 2 to 3 times a day, it's all the splenda in the koolaid, and she is just drinking away, hehehehe wait til I tell her, oh my!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by ICU_RN (464 posts) at 01:13 PM:
Sugar alcohols (the stuff in sugar free candy) will cause a lot of GI problems in some people. It doesn't affect me too much, but some will bloat up, get gas, and have diarrhea. I don't think it's Splenda, as that's nothing more than a derivative of sucrose. But the stuff like mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, lactitol, isomalt, and maltitol can do it to you! Here is a great article from Yale on sugar alcohols: http://www.ynhh.org/online/nutrition/advisor/sugar_alcohol.html Melanie = )

Body for Life Forum Message by Rie (296 posts) at 01:39 PM:
it's maltitol....if I eat anything with that stuff in it, in about a half an hour I look like Violet Beauregarde...you could roll me out the door...I really should quit eating that stuff...someday.

I am a newbie and have found out just how much this tracker website and all of your help is needed. I also purchased Bill's Success Journal. Couldn't live without that either. I am just finishing week #1. I have learned more about nutrition and fitness in 1 week than I think I knew in my prior 33 years of existence. My mom is 65 and I stop out to see her pretty often. She isn't going to take BFL up anytime soon, however, I have educated her to watch her sodium intake, to read labels, etc. Now when I stop out, she always has something new to show me! How she bought low sodium this/that. When I stop out for supper she plans a EFL meal for me and she eats one as well. A few nights ago, she had a grilled skinless chicken breast, steamed veggies and barley. :-) We all can help other's!!!!!!!! I am out!!! Have to get back to work. .but thanks to everyone for being my daily inspiration and proving that all this hardwork and effort will produce results!!! Make it a great day! DJB

Body for Life Forum Message by JanisMomto2 (20 posts) at 12:14 PM: umm TMI Bathroom question for DH
uhhh hi everyone...this is TMI but Dh just told me he hasn't had a BM since Wednesday..he is wondering if he is not eating enough food...I think maybe not enough water....what do you think? Thanks and sorry for the TMI..lol Janis

Body for Life Forum Message by Go4steffie (157 posts) at 12:32 PM:
ok....since this is a TMI type of thread here goes. my DH and I agree on this and are in the same situation. neither of us "go" very often and very small amounts (sorry you asked!). in trying to figure out why we determined that because we are eating very healthy and working out very hard, our bodies are "using" everything we feed it and there is very little "waste" generated from our diet. does this make sense? we went on vacation during week 8 and ate and drank in a very UN-BFL way. we were each going A LOT more on vacation. when we got home and back to BFL it went back to not going much. not sure if this is the way it is with everyone, but thats how it is with us.

Body for Life Forum Message by cruz9095 (174 posts) at 12:39 PM:
Janis, is he feeling constipated? If so I'd say add more fiber. Beyond that, well, yes I do go less than before (wait, maybe I'm not as full of it as people have said...).

Body for Life Forum Message by supergirl (212 posts) at 12:49 PM:
Hmmmm.now this is the thread for me;-)...I am SOOO in the same boat. Although for me it is the feeling of constipation. I am going to try drinking a bit of coffee in the morning since I'm not a coffee drinker) and go from there. I am taking EFA's, senna capsules..you name it, I've tried it. I drink a TON TON TON of water too and eat whole foods all day. go4steffie has an interesting point and I've often wondered about that too. As soon as I start eating "well", I "go" less. Go figure. ALSO, I was told that when your metabolism starts speading up you will go more....hmmm, I'm crossing my fingers on that one. Anyway, this type of thread comes up a lot (which I'm always a part of!) so there's gotta be a reason....I am always out of the house first thing to go to the gym and not letting my body relax to let "that" happen, so today i got up and didn't rush off right away to the gym but just sat here with a cup of green tea, and just breathed and lo and behold had a BM....I don't know if that has anything to do with anything but I feel as though I need to give my body the chance to do it upon getting up in the morning. Ok, 'nuff said 'round here.

Body for Life Forum Message by Monica (540 posts) at 01:03 PM:
First off, who is DH? Secondly, not enough water will do that too you but also, if his carbs are not coming from fruit that could be a factor. When I eat too many carbs from grains that happens to me. If that happens to me I usually have something with a lot of onions - usually clears everything out within 30 min! lol TMI I know!

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (605 posts) at 03:47 PM:
First off, I've always wondered - what is TMI????? I seem to be the opposite of most. If I eat well I can be as much as 3 - 5 times. The more raw veggies the more I "go". I like to think what goes in MUST come out. I don't like how I feel if my stomach hangs onto it. I've been constipated so bad twice while on BFL - both times, raspberries & blueberries (what the heck?). As a kid I grew up with them everyday (they grew wild) with certainly no problem whatsoever. Since the last berry incident I will not touch fruit 'cept raisins in my oatmeal. I don't care I'll get the same carbs/nutrients from veggies. I refuse to go to bowel hell again!!!! Tracey

Body for Life Forum Message by powermom (25 posts) at 03:53 PM:
i think it's "too much information" ! lol

Body for Life Forum Message by supergirl (212 posts) at 04:15 PM:
Ok, bathroom update. This is funny stuff we're talking about but not too funny when you can't go! A couple days ago I bought some "colon cleanse" capsules at the health food store....to "assist with the body's cleansing process" as the bottle says. The product contains senna, chinese rhubarb, and cascara sagrada. Anyway, I took more than the recommended dosage because it just wasn't kicking in....let me tell you it has kicked in and I feel SOO much better. I've been waiting to do my workout today so I could get this under control, have been drinking SOOO much water since i got up and I feel like a million bucks now. Maybe your DH should pick something up to help him along...it's so important and can really drag you down if it's been too long. Gosh, I'm gonna be known as the constipator around here!

Body for Life Forum Message by ICU_RN (464 posts) at 04:41 PM:
Flower, blueberries and raspberries have a lot of fiber...hence, the constipation. And it's good that you "go" that much. We nurses get very excited about bowel movements...teehee! You should be having at LEAST one per day, but 2 to 3 is perfectly normal and healthy. Melanie = )

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (605 posts) at 05:26 PM:
O.K. gotta comment again. First, ICU-RN, I think you had some input with my berry thing and no it doesn't make sense at all - I deal with fibre just fine. Matter of fact the more fibre the better - I REALLY REALLY DON'T GET THAT BERRY THING AT ALL!!!!! Supergirl - I've had something called herbal "Colon Cleanser" has psyllium husk, black walnut, butternut bark, bentonite, wheat & barley grass, buckhorn root, licorice & rhubarb root, irish moss and the list goes on. I really can't say if it made a difference. Oh what an interesting subject this is. Once I got a colonic - they inject distilled water into your bowels to flush you out. According to colonic giver girl (whatever you want to call her) it takes several sessions at $40 a pop. Apparently marathoners, models, movie stars all the "I wannabee like hers" do it. I must say, belly/pouch was down after one session. The biggest notation is my mouth saliva - for about 2 - 3 days my saliva in my mouth was like spring water! Seriously it seemed like I had the cleanest saliva ever if that is possible - totally weird. I really could go on with this subject. I'm exercising/eating clean but even with my so called "good" bowel movements I can get really thick in my abdomen, really puffed out and bloated. Its a real sore spot with me - what the hell is in there????? If I'm having these regular productive movements the only thing left is gas which I don't really feel or fat trapped in there! Really its got to go - I want and need it out! Man o' man can I get passionate about things can't I? LOL Personally, I think this is a fantastic topic! Yikes Tracey

Herm...dilemma. It makes since that you would go less if you're eating less. Problem is you need to have good bowel habits to prevent diverticuli and colon cancer. Herm...unfortunately I'm not a dietician or an exercise physiologist so I'm not sure how we're supposed to correct this problem. Best I can come with is grapes, plums and prunes...natures laxatives.

This seems to run in my family. My mother and I think we may have IBS with constipation. Every so often, I notice that it has been to long since I've gone, and then I break out the M.O.M. (milk of Magnisia) It sucks all the water to your colon or something, cause whoo doggy, it can clean you out!

I wasn't sure where to post this. I have been trying to find information on how often and how long one should be in a sauna. I have never really used them. However, my health club doesn't have a jacuzzi. Anyone have any information on this? THANKS!

I was just thinking about this and thought I would share a few of my 'tricks', please feel free to add to the list; I know they are not BFL cerified, but they do cure the chocolate craving fix. These are much better than eating a whole pan of brownies (which I just did 2 nights ago) 1. sugar free fudgsicles (yummm and only 45 calories) and since it's a popsicle you can enjoy it for at least 5-10 minutes, which is crucial for me, since it feels like I am indulgin a little longer and I usually scarf down the good stuff 2. Lifesavers hard candy in chocolate/caramel flavor; again it has about 60 cals, but it beats eating a pan of brownies and it lasts awhile too :) 3. Chocolate sugar free jello :) Susan

Okay, while we're talking about the boobs that populate the gym, I think it's important to mention the people we see regularly who inspire us or otherwise make our gym time a positive experience: Metastic Breast Cancer Survivor Lady: I don't know her name, but I see her there regularly. She's in her 70's, is very frail looking but not frail of heart. Usually she's on the treadmill, but she also works out with light weights, and is always working on her flexibility. Has a great attitude and is very supportive. Buff Granny Trainer: Dang, I'd like to be that built and full of energy NOW, not to mention 20 years from now. Gung Ho Gossip: She is able to conduct an intensive workout while maintaining a constant flow of juicy commentary. She attributes this ability to being Italian. And of course the ladies in the child care center. I love the ladies in the child care center ;^) Eve

Actually there are 2 gals at my gym who are in great shape ( they aren't friends of anything) but they are there pretty much every day and they lift and run and they look really fab. Not too buff or skinny but just in GREAT shape. They keep me motivated and one of these days I'll ask thier names, since were all there together we sould at least introduce, right? Diito with the child care ladies, they do an awesome job and I'm sure its prety thankless and low-paying, too. I couldn't do it at all without them. Great post, MM

Thread: Here is my essay..... (130 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Go4steffie (157 posts) at 01:44 PM: Here is my essay.....
I just finished my challenge packet and will mail it on monday. Just thought you might like to see my essay..... I am not the greatest or most creative writer (i am no jim shelton!!haha) but here goes.... To say that i have changed would be an understatement. Yes, i DO look diffrent on the outside. I lost 25# and over 17 inches from my body. I definatly have become leaner and stronger than ever before. The other changes that occurred with BODY FOR LIFE were just as dramatic A 6pack every evening was normal for me. Now i realize that i don't need it like i thought i did. I will never let alcohol control my life. My 5 year addiction to caffeine pills is now history. BODY FOR LIFE gave me plenty of energy. Patience has never been my strong suit, but now I am able to handle the stresses that come with 4 kids much better. My relationship with my incredible husband couldn't be better and I am truly endebted to him for being the core of my support during the challenge. I could not have done it without him by my side cheering me on!! During the BODY FOR LIFE challenge, I learned that i can set goals and actually reach them. My initial goals were met early on, and so I had to raise the bar with some new ones. I met all of those goals, too. I am now letting that carry over into other areas of my life. I have set goals for growing my business and have a serious plan that i was too scared to follow before. Today, I am moving full steam ahead! BODY FOR LIFE has helped me turn myself into the person I have always wanted to be. I am fit, healthy, strong, confident, driven, and successful. I did this for me! I will never go back to what i was before. I love myself and and I am so proud of the person I have become. I am totally living and breathing BODY FOR LIFE!

I guess you missed it, but here is a recap. I had sprained my ankle about a week and a half ago now (basketball), a week ago Thursday. Went to ER and got x-rays, and they couldn't see anything, too swollen. At the follow-up appointment, they did more x-rays. Tuesday found out I had an avulsion fracture, tendon snaps away from bone, taking bone with it. Thursday had another doctor appt with x-rays and they said it is bad and I need to be casted. 6 weeks with the storm trooper boot, with first 3 weeks on crutches. Oh joy! Workout now consist of UBWO and abs, oh and I can't forgret crutching around everywhere I go.

Yes, I said it right, I went to the grocery store this morning to buy my bi-monthly groceries and I had this Elderly Man kind of following me around thru the ENTIRE STORE!  Anyway, I didn't catch him until isle # 3, and then I just shook my head and kept on going, I got all the way thru the store, and to the icecream isle when he walked up to me and said," You can tell a lot about a woman by the contents IN HER BASKET!!
I thought I was going to fall on the floor and die, and he then said,"I can tell you have a little one at home, with all the diapers, yogurt packs, and I kind of glanced at my basket, "the cart" hee hee and said, I guess you missed the tampons and condoms, because I don't want to have another!! I thought he was going to PASS OUT! I said excuse me and went to the check-out isle, and this girl that was passing by, well we both were laughing so hard, the manager came over and asked us if we were ok, I mean WE HAD TEARS COMING OUT OF OUR EYES and my tummy hurt so bad.. I almost passed out from lack of oxygen.. Yeah that man might have been checking out a basket, but it was the shopping one! Why can't I get one my own age? ROFLMAO!

If anyone things I'm about to have a stroke on the elliptical at the gym, they should see the vein that bulges on my forehead on Saturdays at my house... eyes get blooshot, face turns into a permanent grimmace for the day, I start walking all slumped over, ready to pounce on any 12 year old who refuses to listen to directions (is there even one that does listen? I want that one). No, throwing all dirty clothes in the closet does not make a clean room. Wiping one inch on the bathroom counter does not make it clean. One thing I gotta say about Daang Girl - she says funny things, you don't know her but there's these little quips she makes and you know she's so cool. The above post says it all.......I'm referring to her about her kids, so down to earth - SO NORMAL!!!!! Please don't reel me in to a lengthy blah, blah, blah post (te he). Example WHYYYYYYYYYY does it take an 8 yr old girl 45 mins to wash her face & brush her teeth? Why would same 8 yr old decide to clean her drawers (empty all contents onto floor) 15 mins AFTER bedtime?????? Veins in forehead? What about furrow lines (and now both girls are immitating me - I yell at them don't do that with your eyebrows, you'll get wrinkles like me). What about that grey hair............................OMG I've been reeled in by myself!!!!!!!! Shut up & sign off! Daang Girl is cool in my books.

Body for Life Forum Message by Daaang Girl (738 posts) at 05:54 PM:
Aw Flower, thanks :) Can you tell HIM that please??? He's on his last chance..literally.... fold clothes,if you look at the TV again instead of finishing, you just might die right there on the spot. He has been warned that if I even THINK about getting onto him one more time, he's toast. Solitary confinement. He has no TV or gamecube in his room. It's confinment on his loft bed where he can't reach anything for the rest of the night. Yeah, he's one of the underprivledged children with no techno-crap in his room. Poor kid, I think he tries to sneak "help me" notes to unsuspecting people in the grocery store, but they think he's kidding. He's not. I will now go mow the lawn and take out some aggression on my dandelions. Yes, it's almost 7pm. I will tape a flashlight on the handle of the lawnmower if I have to... it's the weeds or my first born, the dandelions must die tonight...

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (605 posts) at 06:09 PM:
You're giving me a headach just listen to ya because I so relate. If I caught one of those girls sending SOS notes they'd be punished for that severly LOL. Once my 8 yr old screamed at me that I was the worst mommy in the world! To that I told her to NEVER EVER call me mommy again then - my name is now TRACEY whenever you address me it is to be TRACEY from now on. Got a funny look started laughing and said "oh mommy I can't". Another laugh - something like "I wish I had a better family thing". It was around Christmas, hubby and I would drive around for awhile before going home looking for the "best family" by the prettiest Christmas lights they had. He'd pull in the driveway even and we'd both exclaim how they had the best lights ever and convince her to go in. They might not have presents or food but they certainly had the bestest lights so they've got to be the best family. She'd freak, we'd say, just go on, give the family a try - who knows you might even want to come back to the worst family ever and after all our lights are really not too bad at all. After a few years of this its become a family tradition. Lets talk disfunctional family now..............sorry still makes me laugh, I feel a giggle comin on. Oh gawd I'm a sicko!!!!! Its those kids gone and made me a total wacko sort of like you want to torment me? O.K. lets go. Poor kids, they really are the best, love them to death but they drive me INSANE. Alexis & Chloe, I love you.

Kody is now picking up every single pine cone and branch in the front yard (we have 24 pine trees, it's gonna take him a while). apparently he decided to take his last chance I gave him and blow it as soon as I walked out the door to mow...aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!! So I changed my mind (like a woman as a right to..hehe) and I will haze him with hard labor until he goes to school. I guess he thought cleaning his room and folding his laudry was just too hard. He'll think differently next week.

No wonder he tried to sneak into other people's cars when we leave the movie theater...lol. kidding!

Thread: ALL-IN Motivational Thought for the DAY!!! (61 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by BIG BULL (335 posts) at 05:19 PM: ALL-IN Motivational Thought for the DAY!!!
Hey Trackers...This is BULL's favorite motivational thought of ALL TIME!!! I have this bad boy made into a poster and hanging on my bathroom mirror to read every morning and night.........enjoy! SO WHEN DOES THE MAGIC HAPPEN??? When will everything become better and easier? Consider this thought by Fr. Alfred DíSouza: "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin -- real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way. Something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." Any BFL fitness program will encounter obstacles and "conditions" that effect when we start, how we finish -- even if we finish. When does the magic happen? It happens on the day we realize that itís all we have. THIS DAY. THIS HOUR. THIS MINUTE. I believe that Fr. DíSouza is right. Our obstacles are our lifeÖ The moment we accept that and decide to go on in spite of them -- or overcome them -- is the moment we begin to live, ...THE MOMENT THE MAGIC STARTS TO HAPPEN.

Body for Life Forum Message by njleydon (41 posts) at 05:43 PM:
Thank you Big Bull!! It is when we do great things in spite of our obstacles that we can feel the magic. My husband and I have overoome many hardships, as I am sure many others have throughout their lives. Four years ago I almost lost him to a brain aneurysm. Since then, our lives have been turned upside down. Depression, finacial problems, insecurities, and the fear of it happening to him again. Now I am happy to report that we are stronger than ever. We are completely debt free, confident, healthy and live our days to the fullest with a smile on our faces. Now that we have ourselves back on track and doing BFL together, (with success so far ) we feel like there is nothing we can't overcome. The best feeling is that now we are in the position to help others in any way we can. LIFE IS GOOD!!

Body for Life Forum Message by njleydon (41 posts) at 06:25 PM: SURVEY QUESTION
What would you do about the person at your gym that doesn't wipe down their machine afer sweating all over it? 1. Ask him to clean his machine. 2. Report him to the authorities. 3. Be sure that he sees you wipe off the last machine he used before you use it. 4. Accidently drop the cleaning spray bottle at his feet and say, "Sorry, I almost hit you with this disinfectent" 5. Ask him if he is new here and offer to go get him a cleaning towel. 6. Wrap your personal sweat towel around his neck. 7. Tell him that you are new here and ask him if he knows where the cleaning stuff is kept. 8. Ignore him in hopes that he will just go away. 6.

I would 1.Ask him to clean his machine.

Actually I guess I would be a little rude to him... on the ship when I was deployed, we had 1 row of ellipticals and in front of them were 1 row of treadmills, some of us got so mad at the Marines that would just get off a treadmills and leave it covered in SWEAT and I mean covered,,, soaken wet.. That is disgusting and down right rude... so we got rude, I have gotten off my elliptical , I would say 40 times thru the duration of the deployment and went up to them and directly told them to go back and clean their machine,,, When you have over 3000 sailors and marines on one ship, there is no time for requests! Got kind of fun after awhile! hee hee, Damn it, I am CHATTING! lol

All of those sound good, but I would probably (and have actually done this one) pick #3. I tend to not have a lot of patience for people that lack common sense, and to me, this is just common sense. Yeah...it's a major downfall of mine, and most time it leaves me looking like more of a b*tch than I usually am, but?? Perhaps this person doesn't know what the protocal is??

In my head (I get such a mental pic of this), it would be #6 for sure!!! Realistically, #3 & I make sure that I spray it down REALLY good!!! I have used #1 before, but boneheads just don't understand...or usually use deodorant for that matter!!! UGH!!! Can you picture (#2) the gym police ??? Hot pants, oiled down & ready to snap that towel at the drop of a hat!!! Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do when they come for you??? Wipe down that freakin' equipment!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by rainy318 (172 posts) at 10:09 PM:
He's probably clueless and even if you asked him to do it, wouldn't because he doesn't care. I'm mean, obviously if you leave a sweaty butt mark on something, shouldn't you wipe it up? Anyway, I'd just keep some clorox disinfectant wipes with me and clean it before *I* get on it! And, yeah, I'd probably make sure he saw me cleaning up his nastiness. Oh, and I'd say real loud "GROSS"! But it'd still probably go over his head. LOL! :) r

Body for Life Forum Message by Cheetara (1426 posts) at 10:59 PM:
I'd look for a dry piece of equipment, first because I'd probably be scared of someone that gross -- what if I say something blunt and they decide to shake like a wet dog, or worse -- give me a bear hug (a mean one)?! In fact, I'd probably just leave the gym and hide in my bed for the next week ...

Thread: Pizza....................Lets Analyse a Pizza (60 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (605 posts) at 06:32 PM: Pizza....................Lets Analyse a Pizza
Whats with the pizza guys - I notice that alot of people have free day pizza. I've analyzed this to death. The majority of people are from the U.S. Here in Canada we have the most wonderful deals on pizza. You can get 22 toppings or 222 toppingS - THEY ALL TASTE THE SAME!!!!! And cheap, cheap, cheap. But the flavour. Why I ask, with all those toppings and so much flavour, here in Toronto (TO area in general) they really are crappy. Pizza Hut is a bit different - much more grease & fat = better tasting. I'm convinced pizza here is a thing of the past. Even a normal pizza; sauce, extra cheese, pepperoni, gr. pepper, onions, olives, hot sausage, mushrooms tastes like crap; so add ten more toppings, STILL tastes the same, I truly don't get it. Trust me its blah. Like I said 22 or 222 toppings - tastes the same. What a disappointment. Can't be that our "tastes" are so much better up here, its gotta be American pizza. Whats the secret??????????? Do tell.

Body for Life Forum Message by sushu (141 posts) at 06:51 PM:
Hey flower! I used to be a PIZZA HUT freak, but now it grosses me out. I think we just make stuff greasier here. Remember, we are the fattest nation in the world! YUCK, but true :) Susan

I know cheat day was yesterday but, I just had some of the best pizza. I went out to dinner with my wife and she really wanted the chicago style, which serves 3-5 people and I planned to eat good. I said okay, and it was great. Thin crust bottom, stuffed with cheese, fresh mushrooms, pepperoni and ham, then the top layer is thin crust also with sauce (the best tasting sauce) on top of that. One word, AWESOME! Now, no more cheating!

Hi everyone, I am done with week 5 after today....after week 3 I weighed 114, with BF at 20.5%...two weeks later I am EXACTLY the same. Is this normal? I will take pics tomorrow morning as well. I know I am at that stage where the extra fat is just wanting to hang on for dear life. I am also not upset by it as I am not even half way through this challenge and didn't really have a stellar week this week due to the 5 week freakout or something. I don't care about the weight so much but do want to see the BF drop down. Just wanted some feedback if anyone else is going or went through this. Thanks!!!

I'm curious if anyone else here has IRS? I was just diagnosed!! Really need to change my way of eating and exercise more!! I admit it, I strayed away from BFL last summer, and funny enough, that's when I really started packing on weight!! The tiniest thing I'd eat would turn straight to fat!! I've become pretty weak and sluggish too... (I also have Fibromyalgia, which could explain that...) I'm now taking medication to help lower my insulin (metformin and chromium picolinate).... But a strict diet and exercise program are also needed to hopefully reverse this!!!!! So, I'm looking for support and a buddy to BFL it with me on a low glycemic type of diet.... Anyone? Ciao & Happy Free Day!! Hotzing

Body for Life Forum Message by Lala (239 posts) at 09:08 PM:
Hi there Hotzig! I don't have IRS ( heck up here in Canada.. we don't have the other one either! LOL ;) Seriously tho' as an RN I'm somewhat familar with it. It's basically a precursor or concurrent to becomming a type 2 diabetic... which is NOT where you wanna go! This programm is JUST what will help to reverse this for you! Are you already familiar with what constitutes low glycemic for you?- sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on what's going on.. that's important! As far as support - THIS is the best place for it! without doubt! Feel free to pick our brains for whatever else you need to! Take care Pamela*

Body for Life Forum Message by rainy318 (172 posts) at 09:15 PM:
Hello! I haven't been diagnosed with IRS, but I suspect I'm well on my way to it if not there already. The BFL eating plan is perfect for it. Having the balanced protein and complex carb portions is perfect for keeping the insulin from spiking and crashing. Then the exercise speaks for itself. Regular exercise is a magic bullet for many diseases. It even helps control pain for fibro. This board is great for support. Best wishes to you! :) r

I understand completely! I feel like it 'erases' it just like you said. I feel like I work too hard to waste it on a cheat day. Anyway, having said that, there is scientific proof according to BFl and other studies that claims it is good for your body/metabolism etc... to have a cheat day or meal. I forget the actual reason why, it is says so in the book somewhere. Someone help me out here. So, remember this when you are enjoying a cheat meal. I do :) :) good luck Susan

It's good to increase your calories for the day to "trick" your body into thinking that you're not trying to lose any weight. (I think that's it)

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (605 posts) at 08:13 PM:
It is something else too like the extra calories can kick start your metabolism into burning. On the other hand it ensures your body that you're not in famine, so its not hanging onto the extra calories - read food is just around the corner, I'm not starving. Not scientific I know.

Body for Life Forum Message by rainy318 (172 posts) at 09:30 PM:
I understand the feeling! I have a love/hate relationship with free day. Just try not to pig out. Eat what you want in moderation. You'll trick your body into burning more calories by eating more one day a week. It'll keep your metabolism running high. And drink lots of water :)~ :) r

The Beef Stir Fry (I am not sure what the exact name is) is really good...my favorite. It's got peanuts, broccoli, beef...very tasty. Also, there is one with penne pasta and chicken in a red pepper sauce that's good. I like the Cashew Chicken, but it's a bit too sweet for my taste. I had the Pepperoni Pizza last night and it was really good. A little spicy (I'm a WIMP when it comes to spicy foods), but very good. I don't care much for the snack bars at all. I've tried the Peanut Butter and the Chocolate ones. Both are so-so. All of their frozen stuff is pretty high in sodium, but since I watch what I eat otherwise and my BP is around 115/65, I can afford the extra salt in my diet. Melanie = )

I just did something I KNOW we tell each other not to... last night was my kids carnival soooo needless to say I took it as my "free day (night??lol!--:) I'd weighed myself in the afternoon at my girlfriends ( I have no scale) & I was ALLLL excited about what it said. So last night I ate all the carnival junk you can think of!!! Cotton candy , tortilla chips, candy galore ( I was volunteering in the Candy shack & was...ummm helping sales!LOL! ) Then later after kids wer in bed friends came over for drinks... which I also happily partook in - probably a bit too much partooking- acording to my tummy this AM :) The reason I'm detailing this is that I just weighed myself here on the ward scale---- well it says that I'm up 8!!! LBS WHAT IS WITH THIS?! was the scale wrong yesterday?? Did I go up that much?? AAAAAAAAGH I'm totally messed!~! Gotta go see pts... I'lll check in in a bit...

Body for Life Forum Message by Lovey75 (266 posts) at 09:35 PM:

Body for Life Forum Message by BIG BULL (335 posts) at 10:10 PM:
Take it Sunday mornings...official end of the week or monday mornings for the competition...either is fine. BUT.......put a dollar bill in a special envelope or jar every time you overcome the urge to step on a scale and save that money for a BFL gift to yourself when you get to the end of the challenge or at the 6-week mark. Like I bought myself a pair of running shoes for getting to the 6 week mark last March! That was fun! If you step on the scale all the money goes back in the bank or give it to your hubby or put it in the offering plate or something! just a wild hair of an idear for ya! creative BULL

Body for Life Forum Message by Lala (239 posts) at 10:25 PM:
Gotta Love ya BULL... always something interesting going on in that brain of yours! :) I generally have been doing my wt only the night before my free day.. which is usually on the W/E but not set absolutely ( ie.. last week it was mother's day.. this week it's the carnival night.. - ) I have been weighing myself here at work.. thinking that this fancy digital scale was pretty acurate! soooo being that last night I was OFF & I couldn't use this one - I used what was available.. but now I'm scared it might have been wrong -- SEE?? & now that it's the day after the "night before"( ;) LOL- I have NO clue what is right! :{

Body for Life Forum Message by Booty Babe!! (974 posts) at 11:05 PM:
Girl, Please don't let it get you down, I actually stopped relying on the scale and only weighed myself 1 time a week and with the last two weeks every other day after my last free day because I was working on my water retention, but I stopped letting it rule my focus,, I focused on strength gains and measurements! You can do it!

That milestone weight was 225 lbs and this morning the scale said 223!!! (Yes, the scale and I are good buddies again! We'll see how long that lasts!). I just bought the wheels and made an appointment for Tuesday to have everything set up and adjusted on the bike. Man! I'm excited! So finally after years of that bike collecting dust in the garage and never having been ridden, I'm going to dust it off and actually start riding it!!! Surely, I had hoped this day would come, but it's hard to believe that today is THAT day I dreamed about for such a long time, even before I started BFL... All I can say is Whooppeeeeeeeeee!!!!! For you bike nuts, check out the Rocketwing at www.softride.com and the HED3 Aero Wheels at www.hedcycling.com Jimmy (sorry but I feel like a 6 yr old kid today!)

I wore a skirt to work today...(sooo never wear skirts) and it's a cute one that is above the knee...anyway, was helping a customer, and she says..."do you work out?" I said, "yes, why?" and then she dropped the bomb on me, she says, "you have awesome calves." I about flipped out...my calves are like the one little part of my body I actually like and was proud of, and to have someone else confirm it just made my whole flippin day!!!!!!! Hugs Christie

Ok, I just found out that the average margarita has 250 calories for every 6 ounces!!! That means that on an average cheat day trip out to La Paz with the crew, I may drink up to 2000 calories...!!! That's like a whole day's worth of calories I suck down in...what... 30 minutes' time!? That is insane!!!! No wonder I can't lose weight. Sheesh...next visit, I'm just having unsweetened tea with my guacamole chimichanga and tortilla chips... ;)

Body for Life Forum Message by Mark4Life (13 posts) at 10:44 PM:
Yeah man, it's a wonder Buffet doesn't weigh 300 lbs. by now! I saw a recipe once for low carb/low cal margaritas-I'll see if I can dig it up and will post it.

Thread: Just a bike ride... (11 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by jshelton (718 posts) at 11:18 PM: Just a bike ride...
Happy Saturday everyone! I just got back from riding my bike on the beautiful San Diego coastline. I used to ride my bike along the coast almost every Saturday back in 1994 and 1995 before the illness problems stopped all that in '96... As you can imagine, I was pretty excited about doing this ride for the first time in ages. The weather was perfect - sunny, about 80 degrees with a moderate wind blowing. As I started riding alongside the beach on Old Hwy 101. I wondered if this ride would be as fun as it used to be all those years ago when I was 50 lbs lighter... Well, on the first hill I got a real wake-up call. It was only a gradual incline and I remember going up it at about 14-16 mph back in '95. I expected that since I was much heavier now that I would be climbing it about 12 mph...Well, something just didn't feel right! My bike computer showed my speed at 19mph, not 12 or even 14 and I wasn't even working my legs that hard! Then, I decided to get real daring and climb the rest of the hill in the standing position. I say daring because in the past I was NEVER able to climb standing - I would always get muscle spasms in my legs immediately...so I waited for that pain to force me to sit back down in my usual climbing mode. But, the pain never came! I just continued to power up the rest of the hill... I asked myself "Ok Jim, what the heck is going on?! This is as fast as I ever climbed this hill! - even when I was 50 lbs lighter!". But, then it dawned on me..."Yes Jim! Back then you had good 'bicycle legs' BUT these are Body-For-Life legs!!! Now it's a whole new ballgame... As I continued flying along the oh-so-familiar terrain I couldn't believe that my conditioning was as good as it seemed to be. "Wow Jim! This is fun! You're really cruising buddy!" Then suddenly tears came out of nowhere...not sad tears...and not really tears of joy...No these were long-suppressed tears of relief, cleansing tears... It's as if I had been holding my breath for the last 10 years...and now it was finally OK to breathe again..."THIS is what we have been working for, Jim! THIS is the moment we have been hoping for years would finally come...take in the moment buddy...look at the beautiful waves...feel the wind in your face...and the lump in your throat...You're back buddy! You're really back!!!" After about 12 miles into the ride, I caught up to a couple of very serious looking cyclists at the traffic light. "Great day for riding isn't it!" They gave me kind of an annoyed look as if to say "It's just a bike ride..." Riding right behind them, I realized that they were in pretty good shape! I was keeping up with them, but I was having to work harder than my workout plan called for. I was using the hills for my highpoints and the flats to come back to lower intensities... "Ok, Jimbo, slow 'er down...ya gotta get your 6s and 7s in..." My brain was telling me to stay on track but my heart wouldn't listen..."Jim! I NEED this! Please! Don't slow down! Any other day maybe, but just for today, give it all you've got!!!" My brain butted in "Jim. just who do you think are?! some hardcore athlete?!!!" "Why Yes!...Yes, I do..." came the response from my heart... Well, I hung on the wheel of these much-too-serious-buttheads for the next 10 miles until it was time to wrap up my 22 miles...In the last half-mile I really put the pedal to the metal and blasted pass them! Man! I may have missed getting in all my 6s and 7s, but I sure as Hell was going to get in the best 10 of my life! I glanced at my heart-rate monitor as my powerful 'BFL legs' gave it all they had...166... 172... 177... 182... 184!!! "Holy Smokes Jim! 184!!!" A few weeks ago I was sure my max heart rate was only 174! But now it's 184?!!! Must be because I upgraded my old heart to a BFL heart! (Yuk! Yuk!). Wow! What a ride! Remember my post about slaying dragons? Well, I think I ran over one of them - the one about being too old! And the one that said I would never get my fitness back to the level of 10 years ago? I left him in the dust at mile 20!!! I'm sorry Mr. Phillips, I didn't do my HIIT workout today...No, today I did a HEART workout - Highly Emotional Adversity Recovery Training...It may not be what my body needed, but there is no doubt my heart and soul have been crying out for this therapy for a very very long time... Just a bike ride??? I don't think so... Jim

Huge smile on my face reading your post Jim...I could actually "see" you riding, and "feel" your HEART workout...Good for you, I am so, so happy for the successes that you are having. God Bless You Jim. Hugs Christie

Thread: Week 4 pictures (15 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by ToBeThin (29 posts) at 11:25 PM: Week 4 pictures
Well, week 4 is over. Not much of an improvement since day one. But...I know from being on this site that most women don't show major improvement until week 8 or so. That is the most wonderful part of this site. Without it, I would have came to this point and thought, "this isn't working", and I would have quit. Now I KNOW to keep going! Question for ya.....why are my first week pictures LIFE SIZE??? Gosh, when I click on the link that says "this profile contains pictures" and the page opens....it's frightening! My Big Butt and Big Belly jumping right off the screen. lol They almost slap ya in the face. Know how I can fix that???

Body for Life Forum Message by Bflmom2004 (305 posts) at 11:37 PM:
I don't know how to fix that, I think you need to resize your pic before you upload...one of mine does the same thing. I love your attitude, way to go...also, 5 pounds in 4 weeks is a definite improvement, you now have a GREAT start to a healthier new lifestyle!! Good Job!

Body for Life Forum Message by jshelton (718 posts) at 11:43 PM:
It usually takes more than a few weeks to make real noticeable changes. However, your stomach is firmer and I can see new muscle in your legs! Keep up the great work and a few weeks from now I'm sure you'll be so stoked! BTW -- Have you noticed any improvement in how you FEEL? Jim
