are you drinking myoplex shakes or any other protein supplement shakes or bars? they tend to really bloat me and make me constipated. whey protien powder shakes (GNC sells it) are easier on my stomach. fiber and veggies are important in the diet too! feel better!
Body for Life Forum Message by Savyart (133 posts) at 06:12 PM
All the suggestions are good, keep in mind you really need to be vigilant about your water intake. If you don't take in enough you will retain water. It helps move things along too if one of those fiber or gastric issues is what is plaguing you. Also, if you are eating a lot of vegies, it could be trapped gas - you might look into some of the gas pills with simethecone in it to help out.
Watch the sodium, and breads- and if you are still really bothered by this, does it go away on freeday or after any meals or in the mornings? Any other symptoms? If you really can't figure it out, it might be worth giving your Dr a call...
Sometimes people discover they are lactose intolerant on this program, and it's a surprise... just another thought.

I use gloves all the time I hit the weights. I take them off for cardio, but even when I do my LBWO i use them to change the plates since then my hands heart less.
Also, now the summer is starting I'm getting mega sweaty and I don't want any dumbbells to slip off my hands!

I absolutely love Pilates. It is excellent for all your core muscles. I've been going to Pilates classes two or three times a week and I think I really find my muscles are getting leaner and longer. I can tell there is a difference in my legs also. Pilates really works your abs (do the 100)but you need to have very little fat in your body for your abs to show. I had terrible pains in my back from carrying my little 19 month old little one and since I have been doing Pilates the pains have completely dissappear. I'm even considering to become a Pilates instructor!

I started working out with Winsor Pilates and worked my way up to the advanced. Then started BFL & incorporated AB Bootcamp into BFL. The other day I did some of the advanced ab work from the Winsor tapes after AB Bootcamp just to see what it would be like. I did at least triple the reps and was shocked at how easy it was compared to a few months ago when thats all I did. I would attribute that to AB Bootcamp. Just my thoughts.

just wondering if there are convenience foods you can eat that fit into the bfl meal plan.
i know there are certain subs at subway, but what about other places.
Body for Life Forum Message by spartankf (599 posts) at 10:36 AM
When I am in a huge bind, I grab a lunchables. Most any gas station/convenience store has them.
I always get the lean turkey one - it has turkey and whole wheat ritz crackers. I just skip the cheese.
Not the best, but in a crunch - it works and very tasty and satisfying.
Also, Wendy's chili is pretty decent (minus the finger, or course!!)
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (630 posts) at 10:52 AM
But the finger would be virtually fat free.
Body for Life Forum Message by Savyart (133 posts) at 06:23 PM
You can look into the chicken breast (grilled) salads at most fast food chains, also remember you can always stop by a grocery store deli and grab a whole wheat roll and a couple slices of lean turkey breast or something. And then in most restaurants you can order special and ask them to cook things as you would like.

i have heard alot about both and must say the proof is in actually trying. since i have been using both i have had great results. although i must admit i do use a more expensive form of cla so it may be of better quality.

Shakes taste so good, I always want one, especially when using skim milk. I usually have one in the morning with creatine and then last meal of the night as a frozen milk shake. They really help to up the amount of protein I get in a day.
Body for Life Forum Message by NaturalPhysiques (98 posts) at 09:19 AM
Define "worth" the time and cost ... for example, many people invest in fat burners. The most effective fat burners ever studied only raise metabolism by between 50 - 150 calories per day, meaning someone would have to be on them for 23 days just to see one extra pound of fat loss.
To me, that's not effective or worth it ... but many others believe it is.
I can say this about NO ... not much science to support it. Most of the books, papers, articles, etc, were funded by the companies selling it.

I know this is a silly question but. Ok I have read other threads that say if you use CLA it should have Tonalin in it. I see that GNC's CLA has a 1000 MG of Conjugated Linoleic Acid. And the EAS has 1.5 G. But no tonalin listed. Is CLA and tonalin the same thing? Or two different things? Or does tonalin not need to be in CLA to have a good effect?

Try wild rice pasta - I love it. Funny colour & smell when its cooked, just rinse all the starch off. I think its higher in protein & nutrients.
Body for Life Forum Message by NaturalPhysiques (98 posts) at 09:24 AM
Low carb pasta is great, but it's not the carbs that are bad, it's how refined they are. If you get whole grain and/or protein-enriched pasta and control the portion sizes, that is another healthy alternative for pasta lovers.

I really enjoy dreamfields pasta. It's very low carb for those times when i feel like i need to reduce my intake a little more.
I really only try to stick with the whole grain pasta for the most part. I'm trying to eat more clean with more control over portions
Dreamfields pasta works great for free days though. It's the EXACT taste of regular pasta but with none of the side effects like fatigue and bloating (at least for me).
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (630 posts) at 09:36 AM
Regarding the above 2 comments. I thought I read that these low carb or whole wheat pastas were still overly refined. Thats why I tried the wild rice (don't know how refined that is) and I found it surprisingly like regular pasta. I find wild rice on the chewy side and I like spaghetti chewy.
Now to work on the portion control. I'm the type (used to be) that likes spaghetti hanging off the plate - DINNER SIZE plate that is.

Once I made about 100 stuffed jalapenos for a party. My hands felt fine, not burning. I probably rinsed them a few times through the course of cooking but thats it.

Since the beginning of C1 when eating bread I've always used 100% whole wheat. I bought some new low carb 100% WW; carb count is 7 as opposed to 16 for the reg. WW. I don't think I can handle this bread - its like a substanceless (word????) foam. Even made french toast with whole egg, fried in organic coconut oil (try this, excellent but expensive) and used butter on it (give me a break - its free day).
I'm thinking of trying 100% dark rye. I think the calorie count is higher but maybe a better choice in grain (more nutrients). Anyone use this or have any opinions?
The low carb stuff has got to go. Think I'll make bread crumbs out of it.
Thanks, Tracey
Body for Life Forum Message by Young Guns (867 posts) at 09:13 AM
lol low carb stuff is mostly yucky I've found. Whole grains is the best way to go. Tastiest and healthiest by far. Try some flax seed bread, that's yummy.
Body for Life Forum Message by NaturalPhysiques (98 posts) at 09:28 AM
Yes, low carb usually means heavily processed and a million other things.
I would suggset your route - whole rye and pumpernickel are great breads. Whole wheat provided the first ingredient is whole wheat or stone ground wheat ... most people get suckered into buying whole wheat bread but the first ingredient is enriched flour - that is basically white bread with some color added to it to make it "look" healthier.
Another alternative that we LOVE is sprouted grain (sometimes called Ezekiel) bread. This stuff is awesome, and health food stores have English muffins, hot dog buns, you name it. Instead of grinding dried grains to flour, the seeds are soaked and sprouted, then blended. There is more fiber and nutrients.
The bread isn't as tasty just plain (it is alive so you have to keep it refrigerated) but lightly toasted, is awesome, and has more fiber and protein than regular bread.
I love French toast. I'm not 100% on BFL so it's an authorized meal for me: 2 slices of sprouted grain toast, 2 free range eggs, and 100% all natural maple syrup (great source of iron and magnesium, and actually impacts blood sugar less than a baked potato).

the eziekel pita bread is great. i haven't tried the other eziekel bread products yet.
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (630 posts) at 09:44 AM
Excellent info Jeremy.
You're right about the WW bread - processed/refined etc. I find that is usually the case with 60%. We are a "wheat" country here in Canada - why does our wheat have to be so refined, turned to garbage that bugs won't even eat it!!!!!!?????? Anyone ever notice this? Bag of flour can sit in your cupboard for years and you will never find a bug in it. In the olden days (te he) my grandma said they used to have to sift through it for bugs. Not now - its refined processed junk food.
I'm going to try your suggestions as well as the rye (rye is my favourite anyway). We have a huge selection in our organic/health section at local grocery, expensive yes but maybe worth the investment.
My low carb foam was over $3 small loaf and there's something about it that doesn't seem like real "food" to me.
Thanks, Tracey
Body for Life Forum Message by spartankf (599 posts) at 09:58 AM
Tracey-
I buy one of two kinds of whole wheat lite bread - either Sara Lee or Koeplinger's. Both, I think are very good.
2 slices are 90 calories and about 18 grams of carbs.
Try one of those - I think they are tasty - use them for turkey sandwiches and also the EFL french toast and no complaints!

I don't know if anybody has ever seen the show "taking it off". It is a weight loss challenge show based in Canada featuring people who are trying to lose weight.
Anyway, on one of the shows the main trainer said that the elliptical machine was for FAT PEOPLE!!! He criticized everybody for using it because it is a machine that does not teach you to do anything. His theory was that it does not train you to run faster like a treadmill does, it does not teach you to bike faster like a gym bicylce does or it does not teach you to row better like a rowing machine does. So because of this the elliptical is a machine that trains your body to do nothing!!!
The participants in the show were really upset about this comment because they loved their elliptical machines and they felt like they were being told that they wasted their money.
I think that any machine that helps us get into shape, increase our endurance and reach those 10s is not a useless machine, but a fabulous invention!!
What do you think??

The very best exercise for burning that back fat are push-offs.
Nope, not push-ups, but push-offs. That means pushing-off any extra portions or food that's not on your program. Just like how great abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym, same with your back. The combination of all exercise, not just cardio, but weight training and cardio, will help burn energy. The proper nutrition will keep excess energy from coming in. The net result will be fat loss!

The way Bill Phillips laid out BFL, doing extra cardio can prohibit your body from getting the rest it needs to heal from the weight lifting and intensive cardio you do with HIIT. It's overtraining, and your body is telling you it needs rest!

There are 6 buttons on the program, with one saying Manual and one saying Custom. I havent been able to figure out these two as I couldnt find the manual.
1. Would you consider Stairmaster a good cardio equipment
2. If you have one, or similar one, how would you program (or use existing program) that gives you a HIIT workout?

Blister in the Sun 4-5
Jump Around 3-4
Cecelia 4-5
Rock Your Body 4-5
Mambo #5 6-8
American Woman 10-11
I've made them for the elliptical and treadmill too. Makes the time fly and cardio feels more like dancing than work. Private message me if you want any more.

Also, piercings all over his face, ears, nose, everything. His hair, balding, was long & died bright green. It litterally glowed because he seemed to have an orange tint to him. I didnt get that, it was weird. He legally changed his name to "Punkrocker Freddy". No joke, it was in the phone book.

I have a sauna in my basement and I use it about once or twice a week. It is fabulous for relaxing and cleansing your body. I've heard it recommended that you should cool down for about the same amount of time that you are heating up. Of course I don't follow that advice. I find that a brief cool down of a couple of minutes is sufficient. What we usually do is sauna for about 10-15 minutes and then cool down for about 2 minutes (maybe take a cool shower or roll in the snow if available). We sauna for another 10 mins and cool down again. The last sauna is usually shorter, maybe 5 minutes. then a final cool down. I think your core heats up faster in subsequent sauna visits.
Some days I last longer in the sauna, some days less. I think it all depends on the temperature. Oh, this is based on a steam sauna, where we throw the water on the rocks. You can also dry sauna and I never do that so I can't comment on time.
I hope this helps. I think everybody's tolerance varies.

I see changes for sure!
Your chest is firming up. Your waist is shrinking. Your butt has shrunk a LOT! Your arms look smaller and firmer. You can definitely see some muscles in your back. And in your back shots, look at the second "roll" under your butt in week 4... it's almost entirely gone in week 6!
Keep it up, girl!

J-
I concur with all the stuff Jess just said, but couldn't really get away with saying it myself without sounding like some kind of freak.
You've actually toned up a lot for you just to be at week 6, and if you've read a lot of other threads on here, most women don't really see a big "breakthrough" until around weeks 8-9.
Just think where you'll be by the time summer really sets in.
Thanks for keeping all of us inspired.

I love pizza. And I'm from New York. That is, NY state, not city. But still, there is nothing like NY pizza. I'm in PA now, but it's close enough to NY that you can still get the best damn pizza around. I don't even consider Pizza Hut close. And Papa Johns, well... after one bad pork pizza from them, I stay away. Give me Januzzi's pizza (local place) any day of the week!
And yes, today was my free day and I had pizza. I loooooooove pizza.
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (630 posts) at 02:19 AM
See, you guys do have better pizza I think. Whatever that double crusted thing lovey was describing sounds like my type of pizza.
Don't get me wrong, its not that you can't find good pizza here you can. Its just not a phone call away. More like in an entirely different suburb of Toronto. From what I can tell the best I've tasted around here is an hour a way. And pay for it you will. sigh....
Body for Life Forum Message by Fluoro Crucky (78 posts) at 03:00 AM
Well, I used to live in England and worked in Deep Pan Pizza for a few years. You know what is like... pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner because I had it at work. Then, sometimes I would take more pizza home because the chef had made a mistake and had put the wrong topping for a customer. After a few years I hated the stuff. I couldn't even smell it. It was also the deep pan variety, almost all of it dough. After many years I love pizza again, but it has to be thin and crispy, never deep pan.

As a born and raised New Yorker, pizza is a phenomenon that we will never let go of. I myself don't prefer many toppings. If you are ever in NYC walking down the street, and you get a whiff of that amazing scent, then bite into the cripy bottom and perfectly seasoned top, you will be a fan for life, I guarantee it. Pizza will never be a thing of my past! ;) My future mother in Law even makes it at home--YUMMY!!!!!!

I don't belong to one of the "Teams" but I weigh myself weekly, but rely MORE on my measurements. That reflects my progress A LOT more than the damn scale. Also, the way my clothes fit tell the tale, too. It's is hard, though.....I have to constantly remind myself that I am building muscle and that weighs more than fat. I have been pretty focused on weight in the past. I would LOVE to weigh 150, but I may not have any definition and be all flab, and I don't want that. I want to be healthy and TONED!!! I hope this tiny bit of info helps! Good luck...sounds like you have a good mindset.

Body for Life Forum Message by Melissa1411 (16 posts) at 08:40 AM
So you throw the scale out the window...and then run outside to make sure you didn't break it- you bring it back in and weight again just to see if it changed in the crash. Repeat and repeat....its a vicious cycle!!! Damn numbers!
Body for Life Forum Message by Young Guns (867 posts) at 09:16 AM
I think the before weight would be more accurate, not because it's the better one but because during your free time you ate ALOT of sodium. Sodium retains water so most of your gain was water probably anyhow.
Body for Life Forum Message by Lala (255 posts) at 10:11 AM
Thanks Jay! You got it exactly..that's why I detailed.. I KNEW that my sodium intake had been astronomical!!! ( I just didn't think it was enough to make it go up that much..
SOO the self doubt monsters wander in & say NO the other scale was ...wrong MUUUAHAHA! YOu really haven't lost any wt these pst 7wks! ;P
The things we agonize over eh? lol!
Body for Life Forum Message by Knox (188 posts) at 11:20 AM
Yep, Melissa...you pretty much nailed it... We all tell each other to throw the scales away, and then go slinkin' over and hop on whenever we think no one's looking.
Sad but true. It's still a good theory, though.
Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (1263 posts) at 06:56 PM
yes, It happened to me every weekend, It was like I dieted all week just to gain it back on the weekend
Now since BFL, that has not happened,
the difference,
I free day, but continue to eat 6 times. it may even be 6 free meals but still 6 small free meals and then on Monday morning I didn't go up 6 , 8 to 13 lbs from one big pig out meal, it really does make a difference and helps
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (2441 posts) at 07:01 PM
So.... you weighed yourself on two different scales?? THAT'S part of your problem! You have to weigh on the SAME scale, on the SAME day, and at the SAME time of day every week.
But.... stay off the scale. :)
Body for Life Forum Message by supergirl (243 posts) at 07:05 PM
yeah, don't get on that dang thing after eating like that. I did it to myself last week and vow never to do it again. It's too tough to get over after working so hard. Plus it's a big lie anyway.

I think you look CUTE already. There's a noticible difference. I was disappointed at week 6... I had only dropped 3 scale pounds...what I didn't know was my body fat had dropped almost 7 percentatge points. By the way there's a huge difference obviously...week 4 you have head. What I mean by that is you've obviously decided to see this through so you posted a pic with your face. Congrats on your fist 4 weeks, the best is yet to come.
Body for Life Forum Message by strongby35 (375 posts) at 10:19 AM
I know how you feel. I found my week four pictures disappointing. I'd been working so hard and felt there should have been more changes. I could see some progress, but not as much as I'd hoped. I was much happier with my week eight pics!
So don't get discouraged. You ARE making progress. Your thighs and abdomen definitely look smaller. I think you'll be thrilled with your results in just a few weeks. Hang in there and don't give up!

How many people have seen the movie, 'Super Size Me' ?
It is a lot of food for thought. (Pardon the pun) I'm sure there has already been some discussion on here about it but I thought I'd bring it up again anyway. For those that haven't seen it yet, I recommend that you do.
Yours in health,

I've seen it, and it is a very informative movie. When he talked about how their food makes you crave having more of it; that really opened my eyes. I used to eat at a fast food joint pretty much every day. Now 14 weeks into my BFL life, the thought of fast food even on my free day actually repulses me.
Body for Life Forum Message by Melissa1411 (16 posts) at 08:33 AM
I don't think I've hit a fast food place in over a year...that movie disgusted me even more- goes to show how addicting bad food can REALLY be!! Scary (and sad) and we wonder why the US has become obese and it is now considered a disease.
Body for Life Forum Message by sushu (144 posts) at 08:40 AM
Yes, I watched it about 2 months ago....
It thought it was amazing how MCDonald's gets the kids hooked. It's a must see for anyone who goes to fast food. It has changed me

The most interesting things I found were how sizes had changed over the years and they would show the comparisons - ridiculous almost.
Also, that he was showing signs of liver damage - even his doctor was surprised.

LOVED that movie! Very well done.
I've been a zealot since I saw it, insisting that everyone I know see it!
Since watching that movie, my daughter and I have not been able to eat fast food other than Pizza Hut a couple of times. Even then, we always feel gross afterwards, but it is my free day craving. My daughter or I just can't stomach the thought of McD's, BK, DQ, Taco Bell, Burgerville, et al----yeck!
The whole addictive thing REALLY got to me. It made me very aware of what I put in my mouth. It also makes perfect sense.
After eating clean all week, I almost dread free day. I can't wait to get back to the next day. I'm going to be rethinking how I handle free day....
Okay...I've rambled on long enough...I obviously LOVED it! LOL!

Body for Life Forum Message by VegasGuy (17 posts) at 12:55 PM
I had an interesting thought about this the other day. When I was a kid, my parents did not allow me to have fast food. What we did do, was to have good quality food at home that resembled fast food. We had homemade burger night, taco night, quesadilla night. Of course this was usually on the weekends, and during the week we ate more traditioanl home cooked meals (and my Mom worked full time too). When I ate my first fast food hamburger I thought "what the heck is this...this is gross!".
I still prefer good home cookin' to fast food. I think I have eaten at McD's about 6 times in my entire life, and never by choice. Thank goodness there are more healthy alternative 'quick' food places now.
Stay Strong!
Chris

Just posted my 3 week stats (plus starting stats).
You may notice that I am doing pretty good with weight (9 lbs, 3lb/week), Waist (lost 2.5 inches) and Hips (lost 3 inches).
However, my body fat, and all muscle stats are pretty much same. I do think I notice slight cuts on my biceps but I was hoping for some growth by then.
End of next week I will post week 4 stats and photos so you can see what you think.
I have followed the program very well (starting to get my 10s) and eating properly...
Thanks for any feedback BFL brothers & sisters!

Originally I weighted in, measured up, and took BF reading (on Tanita scale) on Monday mornings at the beginning of each week.
The more I see my numbers, this week, and that I figured who wants to measure up after your free days, so I changed this to read my BF on Saturday afternoons and read my weight and do all measuring first thing on Sunday mornings.
Is this how you do yours too?
Jay
Body for Life Forum Message by DJBbodyforlife (50 posts) at 09:48 AM
Jay,
I have one as well. I have that the best time for me is right before bed. I think the most important thing is that you are consistent that you check it under the same conditions. I try to have gone 2 hours without consuming anything. Then hit the scale. Hope that helps!
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (2441 posts) at 09:56 AM
The best time to weigh is actually first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, before your free day, and you should try to do that every week on the same day. But those BF scales measure BF more accurately (so they say) at night when you're well hydrated, but since it's offering that reading as a percentage of a weight that isn't quite right since you've been eating food all day, I am not sure how it could be too accurate even then.
That said, it does explain the answer to your other thread, why your BF isn't changing... those scales are not known to be terribly accurate. You might consider calipers or some other way of measuring BF.
Body for Life Forum Message by Jay (88 posts) at 10:19 AM
Actually my true motivation is to lose weight, and to look great. I do dream about having my abs pop out, so I understand I need to go below 12% BF. I do not really need it to be accurate (water submersion or calipers). I figured Tanita would give me good-enough readings, and I just was hoping to see the figures drop downward at least.

I have this tendency to sweat alot. I mean alot. I tend to sweat even after some simple activity. I look at others who do the same activity as me (e.g., play basketball with me), I sweat like a pig compared to him.
Some people say it has to do with me being overweight, out of shape, or having high sodium (I dont know if I actually do), etc.
Just wondering if any of you know to what sweating is assocated to, and does it have anything to do with genetics (I do not think the rest of my family sweat much, but by that I mean, is it something Im stuck with)?
Thanks!
Jay
Body for Life Forum Message by Rod has changed his Bod (306 posts) at 09:23 AM
Jay, I think the sweating part is genetic, I have a couple friends who are not overweight and they sweat all the time.
In college one of my roomates had to sleep next to the window with it open in the middle of winter. while the rest of us were covered up with like 20 blankets, he would be sleeping on top of his covers just sweating away.
Body for Life Forum Message by Coco (241 posts) at 09:25 AM
also, the more your body learns to adapt to exercise, the more you sweat. so, it can also be a sign of being fit and in shape. i sweat alot. but, it makes me feel good, b/c i know i'm working really hard.
Body for Life Forum Message by Jay (88 posts) at 10:23 AM
Rod... Sounds like me too... I wear only pajamas shorts even in the winter.
Sure I like to sweat when I work out or play hard. Makes me feel like I worked good. But then, I still sweat for a while AFTER I take a cold shower. Its almost like the sweat engines take a while to grind to halt... grin.

Jeanie :D
Body for Life Forum Message by Reveler 9 (47 posts) at 09:09 AM
Well I have dumbells at home and I hate having to switch the weight because it isn't enough change to make a difference anyway. They only go up to 14 pounds but I could get 20 pounds on one. I have recently uped my weights to 12 or 14 when I use them with upper and lower body workouts. However, I only seem to reach my 10s very little. I am not sure if it is not having enough weight, not doing them slowly enough or just need to figure out how to get it better.
Body for Life Forum Message by Reveler 9 (47 posts) at 09:10 AM
Plus I would like to know if that much wieght is good. I can't tell with the ones that use machines. I should have said free weights and in general what is the average weight used.

Reveler - I do my workouts at home too with free weights - hope this helps:
LBWO:
Lunges - max weight is 20 lbs each hand (def. feels i could do more)
Squats - max weight is 20 lbs each hand
Calfs - one leg raises on step - 20 lbs
UBWO:
Chest - presses/flyes at max of 20 lbs each
Shoulders - max of 15 on presses and max of 10 on T-raises
Back - Max of 20 lbs on 1 arm pull backs
Triceps - primarily do dips with straight legs and 20 lbs for max weight
Biceps - max of 15 lbs on curls (my biceps are super weak, though!)

it is the only place I can work out except this summer I am going to get my masters and they have a gym there. The school is an hour away so I will be driving back and forth and work out while my husband is in class and then go to class. So maybe when I go there I will have a better understanding.
Body for Life Forum Message by Jeanie101 (430 posts) at 08:57 AM
Well, I made the mistake of not taking a week off between challenges, so I just sort of coasted into challenge 2. I had no real goals or focus, so I started slipping almost immediately. Soooo, I made the decision to take week 2 off (yes, during my challenge!). I was really bad (and I enjoyed it), then I spent week 3 getting back to where I was at the end of week 1.
A waste of 2 weeks ... maybe.
A smart move ... definately!
I'm more focused now than ever!!
So although I am at week 6, I've actually only done 4 weeks work. Then, of course, next week is TTOM so I'm carrying around some water weight. And, I bought a new bathing suit, which is a little small (I didn't want to have to buy a new one in 2 weeks) so it squeezes in the wrong places.
Which all leads to the point of the thread. (finally!) :D
I've posted week 6 pics! Which under the circumstances, was a dumb idea! But, feel free to have a look if you want. Just bear in mind, it's only really 4 weeks of work.
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1628 posts) at 09:02 AM

Your doing great Jeanie!! I bet the time off was just what was needed. Glad to hear you are refocused and ready to go!

Body for Life Forum Message by Reveler 9 (47 posts) at 09:18 AM
I did the same thing. I didn't do good at the end of my first challange but finished anyway and then took about two weeks just slipping away more. So this weekend, I read the book again and am making the progress reports to keep track. Something I did not do before. It has definatly helped me refocus. But I am worried because I am going to a Lual cant spell it on June 4. Don't think I am going to look that good by then but the other girls are much more overweight than me so I shouldn't feel too bad but I would like to be sexy for my husband. Anyway my main point was:
I know you are fustrated about your tummy but you have to look back and see what a differenc you have made in your arms, legs and back. YOu are doing super considering those two weeks. I gained a good bit of body fat back. So keep up the good work.

But I always have been a bit weird :)
I also noticed the pics of her abs - WOW!!!

I want to bring this to the top again; I wasn't being sarcastic. Can anybody provide an explanation for this woman, I can't imagine how she would get like this.
Body for Life Forum Message by Kerry (57 posts) at 03:04 PM
I'll try.... everything I've read indicates we all have abs like this. Yes working the effectively and consistantly will help, but if they are hidden by body fat ( it does not take alot to cover up that definition ), we can never see them. I do not know about women so i'll guess that typically BF should be 15% or less to really see abs, and for men, it seems that BF under 10% required to have really visible abs.
Hope this helps,
Your in health,
Kerry

She has to be a PRO bodybuilder and has leaned down for competition. Or just come off competition. Personally it was amazing to me. Of course I like great leg muscles and all over muscles and it is totally personal. NOW to look like the year round is just not healthy. That is def. pre or post competition. That is extremely LOW BF% I am guessing 11% to 12%. I can't remember how low the women get but I am pretty sure they never get into the single digits just because it is to dangerous for women. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong? They only sustain that low of BF% for a small amount of time. Off season they go from 13-20% BF. But that was an incredible picture. I wonder where she got it from? Wonder if I will ever see some of those muscles hehehehehe? : )
Body for Life Forum Message by spartankf (599 posts) at 04:24 PM
I don't get it at all!! I guess it really is a personal preference.
Bodybuilding competitor or not, the look she has gives me the creeps!
Maybe I am weird, but I would rather look like a swimsuit model than THAT much muscle and low of body fat...just doesn't seem healthy or feminine...

Getnlean - do you have a popup blocker turned on? Maybe turn that off and then give it a try?
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1628 posts) at 04:35 PM
I admire it. But I do not want to be a body builder in the sense of bulky big. I am aiming for the slender feminine physique which is still pretty darned muscular but not huge. It is all preference. When I see a picture if that it makes me think what hard work and length of time and dedication it took to develop muscle like that and leanness. Now to say I want to look like that is a different story. But I do admire and respect it. It takes a certain person for that kind of discipline. And not many of the general population wants to look like that or close to it. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... : ) And whatever you like or want is what you go for cause thats what is going to make you happy. : ) In the end that is all that matters. So if you want to look like a swimsuit model on the back of horse go for it thats beautiful too. If you want to develop lots of muscles thats beautiful too. It's all healthy and beautiful.

i've read nico's posts on another site. i think it was bodyforlifers.com . she has a section somewhere on her site that catalogues her journey to the point she is at now. she used to compete competitively when she was younger and her goal was to get back to her competition body.
Body for Life Forum Message by Cheetara (1439 posts) at 06:33 PM
She does post on here sometimes ... send her a PM and ask her about the photo if you're curious. :-)
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (630 posts) at 07:35 PM
Thanks for responding, that was more like I was looking for. For anybody that is confused - that is not Nico. I think she put that photo on her blog as inspiration (but I'm sure its not her - sorry Nico). Now this is what I think and please blast me it I'm wrong.
I think she does steroids to some extent and I'm only guessing but my money would say under 10% bodyfat. I know men can get this ripped; and what is there bodyfat % at this point? Thats right - way under 10%.
The other questions was - how did they remove her skin? She kinda looks like a science example. You know the frog thing when they show you the muscle structure so you know what you're cutting into. But its only her buttocks that I find that is so yeeks, her calves, abs, arms are okay to me its those ripped buttocks - eeeeeks.
I still look, tilt my head, tilt it the other way and think, huh, how, what, how long. I do admire it but I don't think I strive for it.

Hi Flower,
Back from the cottage, log on my daily blog and I was just wondering how the hell I did have so much visitor today to my blog today.
I know it's make a little while I haven't post here. It already make 1 year and 4 months I am into the process of shedding the fat and building muscles. This has not happen in some few weeks but alot of weeks of discipline and clean eating.
Flower, these are MY OWN ABS. You owe me 2 box (lol) I am currently 121 pounds, 5'6" body fat anything between 12.8 to 14.4%, I think. I am not feeling sick or weak. I have never take any steroids, any fat burner and any CLA, which is one of the most secure supplements. I am too much chicken for taking those kind of stuck. The only thing I am taking is my whey protein, L. Glutamine, multivitamin and vitamine C. Nothing else. I do really think that it is all about dedictation, patience, consistency, eating clean, tweaking and tweaking my eating plan, 80% of the success is the eating plan. I did never over train, never over due with the cardio things and I want it so deeply to happen from the button of my heart that I'm gonna make it happen.
I am pretty close of reaching my final goal. I did always say that I will get back that shape back and that PIC of my teenage year when I was bodybuilding. But I seriously think that I will do better than my teenage year Pic and I am in better shape than my early age. I am now really close for getting my final fitness pic, I guess, just 4.5 pounds less and I think that I am done and I will have reach my FITNESS RETURN. Before getting into any competition, I am right now experiencing how lean and how ripped I could be before returning into a bulking cycle than cutting back again for year 2006 and than maybe getting back on stage. Just another 4.5 pounds and I may be able to took my glory pictures and being proud of being 43 years old.
I just can not beleive that 16 months before I was 160 pounds and 30% BF.
It is all about consistency, patience and determination and this without overtraining.

hi guys, i don't know what my problem is. before starting bfl, 8 weeks ago, i had a huge sweet tooth. i would frequently get cravings where i felt like i had to have sugar or else i would lose my mind. the past few days the cravings have returned. i'm not sure why. my diet is pretty much the same. i did have a vacation at the beginning of the week. i was in new orleans for 3 days. while, there i took some free meals. do you think my body is still recovering from that? the urge to visit the bulk department loaded with bins of sugary candy is about to get the best of me.
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (2441 posts) at 10:10 AM
I bet it does have something to do with your trip. Will substitutes help? Like nutrition shakes or EFL desserts? Protein pudding helps me a LOT with chocolate cravings.
Body for Life Forum Message by Coco (241 posts) at 10:14 AM
well, i tried having a bar for my last meal, it only helped a little.
Body for Life Forum Message by TNT's-MOM (87 posts) at 10:21 AM
Oh my New Orleans yes I would have to say that is the problem! (My personal favorite town for eating!! proud of you that you only had a few free meals!!!) give yourself a week of clean eating and the cravings should start to go away amazing how our bodies just want to fall back into old habits. Just use the approved shakes and desserts for your sweet tooth! STAY AWAY FROM THOES EVIL BINS OF SUGAR!! Try to imagine thoes bins full of fat LOL....
Body for Life Forum Message by jshelton (738 posts) at 11:24 AM
It's probably not your issue but for me sugar cravings were an indication of extremely low cortisol (adrenal insufficiency). Recently, those cravings came back. I raised my cortisol dosage and they went away!

WOOT! I had a great free day yesterday! (despite the hobbling)....slept late, then 2 cups coffee ( one with creamer) a great movie in bed with hubby, then we went to sizzler for a steak, dry potato ( thought I was gonna be good huh) then onion rings, chicken wings, clam chowder and desert!....to the grocery store to shop for BFL for next week, and also picked up angel food cake(for me) and krispy kremes and coke for the Hubby....rode out in the cool spring air to the farm for a flat of gorgeous strawberries for my shakes....more fun shopping and then home to hot wings and wine, in the spa by 10 and then ...never mind *laugh*....woke up about 3 am, slight headache and poured out the rest of the wine to inhibit "hair of the dog" syndrome....up today and out to the swap!.....the first free day I've had I didnt regret....
but...I will say that when I sat down to the plate of onion rings and chicken wing, I actually giggled I was so happy...hmmmm, I need help.

Spartan - I'm C2W6 and haven't learned my lesson yet. Its the same ole, same ole - up about 2 - 5 lbs. tomorrow depending. I'll be starving from carb overload and ask myself over and over why, resolve to the fact that I really feel like crap and not doing it again. The week will go very well with diet/workouts/water and by next weekend I'll go into it again making a clear & well experienced decision knowing full well the outcome.

Free days are very difficult for me. I feel almost guilty eating anything I want to eat. I do notice that when I eat like crazy, I do feel sluggish and run-down. I guess our free days are meant to show us what it felt like everyday we ate like that. I am so glad and I am on BFL and I don't feel like that everyday. I hope you have fun at your girlie party!

I know how it is, I am on C2W5 and every week I tell myself I am going to limit myself to one free meal instead of going hog wild the whole day and everyweek, I fail. Yesterday, I found deep fried oreos at a local festival and that set me off. By the time I went to bed, my stomach was aching, I had eaten so much. But, by the next day, I remember what it felt like to feel so full and look forward to eating clean. After 6 days of eating clean, though, watch out, free day, here I come again!
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (2441 posts) at 01:31 PM
Well, it is official... I am a freak. (So DG is not alone in her freakishness, ROFL) I love free day. I eat anything and everything, go all out, fast food, pizza, beer, pizza, french fries, pizza, anything with cheese on it, pizza, and yesterday I also had donuts and some Dunkin Donuts coffee WITH cream and sugar. And today, although I feel a bit tired (couldn't have anything to do with staying out til amost 3am, noooooooo), I feel fine and have no trouble eating BFL-style again. I'm happy to have gotten all the cravings for that crap out of my system, and am ready for another week of clean eating. I've been waiting for that free day restraint to kick in, or the "hung over" feeling a lot of you say you get, so I have some sign I need to start slowing it down, but so far... nada. I LOVE free day. :)
Body for Life Forum Message by TopCop15 (103 posts) at 01:34 PM
I have learned to limit my free day to one meal. I just feel much better the next day. (Plus it seems that I've worked too hard to be going crazy) I hate it though when you have something you relaly didn't want. I ended up having a 12" italian hoagie. The only good thing was that the meat was from an italian deli, Yumm. I did have a couple of potato chips, but I didn't go crazy.

In the last week it has turned really hot over here. So much so that I have started to take two tops to the gym because the sweating is incredible. I have been wearing small tops to do my cardio on the elliptical because by the time I am on it for 10 minutes I am soaking. Anyway, I am beginning to notice people giving me looks and two trainers this week have asked me what I am doing to get this fit lately. It seems that the kitchen roll theory works! Also, It is possible that when you wear less clothing the muscles show more. I am over the moon that two trainers actually noticed. They both said that they would look into the website. Nobody seems to have even heard about BFL in Spain. I'm going to go on a mission to make everybody know about it. Most of my friends are already interested seeing the results of my hubby and myself!

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (630 posts) at 07:45 PM
Lets get one thing straight. Size 2 means American Eagle size 2, same thing as the Gap size 2. Who do these manufacturers think they're kidding? Next size is size 0. Realistically I could go smaller than a size 0 (well maybe I could) but then what - do they owe me money???????? These sizes are geared towards our ever increasing girth. So really a size 2 is probably a size 6 or 8 in real life.
But its a good measure in Flower la la land because I can monitor it on I was a size 6 or 8 at one time and have gone down to a 2. So to me looks wise (certainly not scale) its equivalent to 20 - 30 10lb.s Ten 10 lbs. is equivalent to one dress size. So I got you all hyped up to my phenomenal (sp) size 2 bagginess just like I was, bahahaaaaah.
But the jokes' on me peeps. But really I was happy about the skinny baggy jeans - its 8:30 pm & did a kickass job with free day - cheezies, wine, cheese 7 crackers, meatballs ended with a stint at the local pub with hot chicken wings w/ blue cheese & hot sauce and beer.................and size 2 still baggy.
Grooooooaaaaaan - can't wait till tomorrow.

I hate to just post and whine but damn it! I just used BodyComp.com for my body fat% and its 3% higher! Just feeling very dicouraged by that and my EFL has not been that great this week. I really want to get my a$$ in gear for my 6 week pictures. I'm not going to give up but I just feel really $hitty! Thanks for listening.
Jen
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (2441 posts) at 01:35 PM
mybodycomp.com is not (and cannot) be the most accurate way to guage your bodyfat, although a lot of us use it as a general guide. But if you look at the numbers and think about WHY that number went up, it kinda makes sense. First, you're only 4 weeks in. You've likely built on some muscle and not burned off the fat that's on top of it yet... plus, you said yourself you took too many free days so you're probably retaining water like crazy from the extra sodium. These two things alone explain the increased measurements in a couple of places, and therefore the increase in what MyBodyComp claims is your bodyfat.
Kick it in gear, girl. Make a plan for your eating for the week, that makes it easier to stick to. You can do this!
Jess
Body for Life Forum Message by raygeo (65 posts) at 02:25 PM
Jess is 100% correct. Mkae some minor adjustments and those results will change quickly.
Body for Life Forum Message by RedJen (63 posts) at 04:55 PM
Thanks for the encouragement and the reality check guys. I really thought I had it all together until this week. I love to lift and I love cardio, but like most people the EFL is the hardest part. I use ediets.com for my meal plans so as long as I stick to them I do really well. I seem to have one free day and I feel like crap after but I also crave more sugar after that day.
You are right about making some adjustments. I just need to review my goals and do what it takes to reach them. I'm going to chalk this up to a lesson learned and full steam ahead.
Thanks,
Jen

You'll be ok Jen.
You are going through what most of us have gone through at some point (I sure have).
Kick it up a notch for the last 6 weeks and you will be thrilled!

I love reading all the posts on the odd characters we all seem to encounter at our gyms. Just think how boring our lives would be if we hadn't all discovered BFL! Gee, thanks Bill!!!
After reading Kimmypooh's post on people who can't seem to wipe down their machines after they use them, it made me think of the two things that annoy me the MOST at my gym.
The first is the Herculean Muscle Heads who are so tired from lifting their monster dumbells (you know, the dumbells way at the other end of the weight rack where us reagular people never venture) that they are forced to drop their dumbells very loudly to the ground, and are then much too tired to put them back on the rack so they just leave them where they lay and walk away.
The second are those people who can never seem to put the weights back in the right place (i.e., the 25lb dumbell in the space marked 25lbs.). So, when I go to pick up my set of dumbells, I get one of one weight and one of another, and then have to go searching for a matching set!
You know, I never had these problems before BFL! =)
Stay Strong!
Chris

Here's one...there's this "woman" who is actually a guy, not sure if "he" had "the" operation or not or whatever, but he/she puts their stuff in the women's locker room and does the weirdest exercises and always has to do them right in front of the mirror so he/she can look at him/herself the WHOLE time.I know we look at ourselves in the mirror but not like this.
Totally freakish.

At my gym there's a middleaged guy that has been there everyday of my transformation. He talks alot and works out litely. After 3 months he hasn't changed a bit and I can see some differences I've made in myself.
Body for Life Forum Message by kimmypooh (8 posts) at 09:51 PM
There was one lady at my gym, who after showering, would parade around with her towel just covering her front parts (barely) and sit on the benches with NOTHING underneath her...and then there are the cute little older ladies who take the aqua aerobics classes that will walk in on you while you are showering...(who are my grannies age--early 90's) all they say is that I don't have anything they haven't seen before...The 1st time it happened I was so embarrassed. The sad part now is that I got used to it. I just grab my towel alot faster now!! LOL

Hey I got one! there is this guy who works out at the gym I go to and we call him the screamer! OMG! when he is in the gym every one knows it! its like he wants you to know he is lifting, he screams like a woman! it makes every one jump every time he does it! its hard when you are pushing to failure and you get the urge to do just one more rep from your inner strength and you loose your focus because you here a scream that breaks your consentration UUUUGhhhh!

Well...I made it! Challenge 1 is finished =)
On to Challenge 2!
I know that this challenge could have been much better, but I fizzled out towards the end. Things just got to busy...Now that the crops are in, I should be able to focus on the next challenge and hopefully do better. I am still very happy with my results and can't believe how much better I feel. I am determined to look fit and muscular before my 41st birthday in July =)
Thanks for all of your support!

I have a 34 inch waist and am a size 12 :sighs:
For those of you who are size 6, 8, 10...what is the inch measurement of your waist. Yes, I know I'm nosy:)
Body for Life Forum Message by Shannette22 (413 posts) at 04:37 PM
Last time I measured it was a 26, and I wear a size 6.
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1628 posts) at 04:38 PM
I wear a 6-7 and my waist is a 27-27.5 depending on the day : )
Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (1263 posts) at 04:40 PM
It's all in the bone structure,
I have a 32 inch waist and I am size 14
when I had a 25 -26 in waist I was size 10
When I was 15 to 28 years old I was At 114 lbs and 25 inch waist, 35 in hips and size 10.
If I got any thinner, I would have been a walking stick, yet my waist and hips were at their smallest, I fit in a size 10 and My bones were there to stop me from fitting into a size 8
So it's all in the bones
Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (1263 posts) at 04:42 PM
talking about pants, I could fit in a size 7, dress back then
Body for Life Forum Message by marathon2 (345 posts) at 04:46 PM
32" waist and size 8 to 10. It totally depends on the clothes. Some of my pants from the Gap are 10's and some 8's and they fit about the same!
I love Ann Taylor cause I can wear a 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Body for Life Forum Message by Savyart (133 posts) at 06:27 PM
It's all in the cut of the style too. I have a very small waist and HUGE hips (in general I have about a 27-28 inch waist, and I'm in size 12 pants. AND I'm tall too, which screws everything up too.)
Body for Life Forum Message by cruz9095 (178 posts) at 05:05 PM
I just answered an e-mail from my "All In" buddy, who is stationed in Iraq right now. Apparently free day in Fallujah isn't such a bad deal (after you beat the desert heat). Surf & Turf with lobster tails, crab legs, shrimp... And here I thought I was flying high with my green chile cheese-burger tonight... ROFL
Hmmm... shell fish can't be too bad even on program. Low fat, high protien if I'm not mistaken...

He says the food is really good over there, and after hearing about the steak and lobster, yeah, I can see that..hehe.
Body for Life Forum Message by cruz9095 (178 posts) at 07:31 PM

Body for Life Forum Message by Jeanie101 (430 posts) at 10:20 PM
RALMAO!! Surf & Turf!! And here I've been feeling so sorry for the poor guy! LOL :D
My sister-in-law's BF is in the military. I was teasing him about rations, and he brought me a whole case of mixed ones just so I could see what terrible food they have to put up with! :P
(actually, the rations aren't all that bad ... kinda like the BBQ beans and weiners!!)
Body for Life Forum Message by Nicabod (515 posts) at 10:44 PM
I can't decide which sounds better--the lobster or the cheeseburger. Dang it--now I'm fantasizing about food, and I've got four more days until my free day. Grrrr (that's my tummy talkin').

Body for Life Forum Message by BIG BULL (353 posts) at 06:28 PM
BULL here.....a guy by the name of Bob White gets credit for this AWESOME theory............put this one in your journal if you haven't yet!!!
Here’s a little inspiration for those of you who are worried about not seeing any changes in your body so far. It’s what I call the “Paper Towel Theory”.
Let’s assume you go out and buy two rolls of paper towels, each with only 84 paper towels on it (one for each day of the challenge). You put one aside, and keep it for future reference (your “before” picture). The other one represents you (I’ll call your paper towel you “Ed”). The core represents the lean Ed. The towels represent the fat that is covering the lean Ed. For sake of argument, let’s say that Ed wants to lose 21 pounds of fat, so (84/21) each sheet represents a quarter-pound of fat lost. Let’s also assume that Ed loses his fat equally during each day of the challenge.
Each day during the first week, you tear a sheet off of Ed, representing the fat he has lost for the day. Next, you put Ed next to the full roll (“Big Al”) for comparison. No noticeable difference!!! Even at the end of the week! This can’t be working for me!
But, being a good Ed, you continue to follow Body-for-LIFE. At the end of weeks two and three, you continue to compare Ed to Big Al, and still notice very little difference. That stinkin’ Bill Phillips MUST be a liar!
But Ed is determined! He works hard! Hitting his 10’s…eating his 6 daily meals. Three more weeks go by, the sheets peeling off day after day, before Ed gets up the courage to stand next to Big Al again. Holy
Myoplex! Ed is skinny! OK, not skinny, but less huge!!!
By the end of the 12-week Body-for-LIFE program, Ed is down to his lean dream, or somewhere near it. Ed is happy. We are happy. Big Al – well he’s not so happy.
The lesson to be learned is that fat, like paper towels, comes off in sheets. When you are heavy, you are big around. And when you are big around, that fat is spread over a MUCH larger area – just like that
outside towel sheet. The closer you get to the lean you, the more each lost pound of fat shows, because it is spread over a smaller area.
While the outside sheet may only cover 1 layer of the roll, the inside sheet may go around 4 times. That last sheet looks like it gives you 4 times the results of the first sheet, but in reality, the results are the
same – your perception is just different! And you’ll never see the inside, if you aren’t patient while the outside is coming off! - Bob White

Great answer for people who just started. Poor people who are lean, trying to get leaner... working hard, with not much visible changes or changes show slowly.... or BIG BULL, can you think up of another good analogy for the "semi-lean" folks, grin.
Its great, regardless.

I think I am going to go get two paper towel rolls and put them in my room on my dresser. And start peeling off the sheets of papertowel daily, so that it is a reminder of the slow but constant changes that happen!
My husband may think that I am crazy, but I am a very visual person and sometimes I need that extra motivation.
Thanks for thinking of ways to inspire all of us, Bull!

I have to advise you, if you didn't take a break, you may want to consider it. I just wasn't burning any fat and I was REALLY workin it and keeping it clean. I think our bodies require the break. I am hoping that this is gonna kickstart the fatburn again.
So you and I are starting together. COOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!! I will absolutely hold you accountable Mister Bull :) THERE IS TO BE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLACKING!!!! LOL Keep me posted, Lisa :)

Goddessa........I did take last week off after battling strep! I am glad I did....my body was really craving carbs (good ones!)and I still maintained weight at C1W12, so that was cool!
You gave me the heads up on that when you were struggling, so I am glad that I backed off a bit. I know as soon as I start pumping that iron again that my body will be energized!!!
Thanks for the encouragement....August 7th here we come!!!

Today is day 1 of C2 and it wasn't the best it could have been. Chris and I went to the gym and did HIIT cardio on the elliptical and man this is when it went downhill for me LOL.
I somehow ripped the headphones out of my ears, sent my palm pilot crashing to the bottom of the elliptical machine, one of the ear piece things was hanging on by the wires, I was like SH**!!!! I stopped real fast and rescued it. Reattached the ear piece and then got back on and my momentum was gone. I was on my third cycle of level 9.
Then when I started back up again I nearly fell off the damn thing, my foot wasn't in the footrest thing right and I don't know wtf happened but LOL...I almost fell off. Chris was looking at me like wtf is wrong with you. At this point I am LMAO.
OK so I say just keep going, I only have like 4 minutes left now. Chris is done and he says he is gonna run around the track until I'm finished.
Well he nearly wiped out running around one of the corners (lucky for him it was where nobody could see him) He said he went AH HAH like a bitch LMAO. He kills me I swear.
SO then we had to go to a baby shower for my niece. The food wasn't the best food for BFL but I did NOT have any desserts or soda.
Then we went shopping, went to GNC and I have missed 2 meals now at this point. I am trying to make up for all the water I have missed now and will probably be up half the night peeing.
I am very seriously thinking about calling tomorrow day 1 seeing as today totally sucked. What do ya think? Just keep going or say day 1 tomorrow?
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (2441 posts) at 08:15 PM
Just keep going. It's only gonna get better from here. :)
Body for Life Forum Message by supergirl (243 posts) at 08:41 PM
Are Saturday's normally your free day then? I know everyone says keep going, if it was me I would start D1 tomorrow. You know what to do so just kick it off right in the morning. Must've just been one of those weird days where things just don't fall into place like you want them to. Keep your chin up and have a strong week and you'll be set! Just make sure this is the only "starting over" you have to do! ;-)
Body for Life Forum Message by Cheetara (1439 posts) at 08:59 PM
Just keep goin', babee! Think of all the room you have for improvement. You can even make a list:
Today I will:
1. Not destroy my Palm.
2. Not break my leg on the elliptical.
3. Not stop during my HIIT.
4. Not witness the accidental BFL-related death of my husband.
It could go on and on!!!
I had a ridiculous make-up HIIT session today, too -- must be something in the air! :-)
Onward and upward ...
K :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by cruz9095 (178 posts) at 08:58 PM
Without offering a yes or no answer, I'd say you need to decide which is more important; finishing your current challenge or entering the competition. Let your heart be your guide.
Body for Life Forum Message by Kerry (57 posts) at 09:22 PM
I'm not sure I understand the conflict. Why not finish the challenge and start the next one the day after?
For me, it is body for life

Body for Life Forum Message by Booty Babe!! (998 posts) at 09:41 PM
I concur with Kerry, Each challenge has to be 12 weeks and can NOT overlap so if you start C2 one day after ending C1, you are good, they don't overlap, so rock on.

Body for Life Forum Message by Booty Babe!! (998 posts) at 09:33 PM
Don't worry, you aint' missing much.. It is ok, gives some insight on women's metabolism, hormone issues but to me if it ain't broke don't fix it and she kind of confuses a lot of things that should be commom sense! Y ou should be able to find it on Amazon if you still want one..
Body for Life Forum Message by fitmaggie (29 posts) at 09:37 PM
I agree. It doesn't give a whole lot of new information. Does go over how our bodies change from different stages in life. The exercise guidelines are similar, except she just says 30 minutes of cardio 3x/week but only briefly mentions 20 min. aerobics solution. The eating part is similar, even though she doesn't specify a free day...just that you can relax a bit at times when needed. It was an ok read, but if you have BFL book, I would just stick with that.
I got it through Amazon.
Body for Life Forum Message by ladyfyre (8 posts) at 09:42 PM
I bought the BFLFW first before I got the original and I was not really that impressed. I saw it mentioned on another fitness forum and I got it. There was alot about the different horomonal stages of a woman's life such as childbearing years, menopausal, post-menopausal. I actually took it back to get the original because I thought it was a waste of money. The original is much more motivational and gives a much stricter exercise regiment, which I need.

To the best of my knowledge, they aren't in production anymore. I used to subscribe to Energy and got a letter (it's been a long time ago) that they were ceasing publication. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong in this...
If you're looking for a good mag, try Oxygen or M&F Hers. You can only buy M&F Hers at the store though. They aren't taking subscriptions anymore--I know this because last month they tried to change my sub to M&F--like I need a man's mag!!! I got my $$ back instead.
Hope this helps...

Oxygen is a real good one and still in production and they just had an entire article dedicated to buffed moms, as far as MM, they haven't made a magazine in a while but I would call for back issues if you still want them, I guess I am lucky, I have about 3 years of MM at home,,, holding on to them dearly! Good Luck!

Breakfast...1 pecan tart, 1 raspberry tart, 1 lemon tart
Followed by...hot dog on white bun with mayo, 1 piece of Bakklava(sp?), some kind of Greek or jewish dessert or something.
Followed by....1/2 beef, rice, cheese burrito on white tortilla, baked bbq chips
Followed by...2 more lemon tarts (oh God)
Dinner plan... homemade pizza on whole wheat crust (made by boyfriend)
I know free day means eat whatever you want but this has to go to be keeping that layer over my abs in place....should I switch to having only a free meal on Sundays????
Body for Life Forum Message by spartankf (599 posts) at 09:16 PM
Everybody has a different opinion on this...
I say have a full free day, not just a cheat meal. I am finishing week 5 of my second challenge and always took a full free day and enjoyed them. They helped "keep me honest" during the rest of the week and were a nice relief from the planning that BFL takes each day...
I may have had faster results, but I have been pleased with my results, so I say don't change it!

sorry I don't know what I did but I re-posted your message, anyways I too am so nervous about this free day however I am not going to way myself until next Sunday if I am only the same or a pound less I am switching to a free meal if that doesn't help I will omit the cheat day all together. It seems everyone here encourages it and the results I have seen by most people on this site are more then I could hope for.

Well, I finally got some film developed, so I have week one and week seven pictures up. I'm happy there is progress, but still have quite a bit of work to do.
I found out my husband is on Tracker--he never told me! He is BromBones, and he hasn't posted anything so far. He just finished C1, and we will put up his pics soon.
Since he is BromBones, I'm changing my name to Nicabod (rhymes with Ichabod) in keeping with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow theme. Plus, I'm working on getting the "bod" to go with the name!

For me, I would have paid more attention to the water and the Eating plan. I didn't cheat, but did not eat enough.
What would you all have done differently and why?
Yours in Health,
Kerry

Hmmm, well, after completing week 5 I would say that I need to not go as hog wild on free day for one. And apart from that, I wish I would concentrate hard on the weight training. I am doing well and lifting as heavy as I can...or am I? That's the question I often ask myself. Good thread, it makes me think of what I can do better this week. You're looking awesome by the way...your wife too!

I thought I was lifting to failure or close, but Saturday, my husband came to the gym with me and really helped me push it harder than I thought I could. I will be bringing him along more often and working even harder in the gym!

Should I change my routine at the beginning of week 4 or 5?
Body for Life Forum Message by Nicabod (515 posts) at 10:34 PM
I say to give your routine the full four weeks, and start week five new.

Does anyone find that their brain has consumed soo much fat on their cheat day that on Monday their brains have turned into "couch potatoes"?
lol every Monday morning I wake up and feel tired, lazy and plain want to quit the program (EVERY MONDAY) cause I don't want to go downstairs to workout and just feel blah...that lasts until about 3pm Monday..guess the better foods start kicking in and counter act the icky ones..lol
Anyone else find it hard after cheat day??
Janis

yes, i feel like i'm starting all over from the beginning after every free day so fat but I also realize that the free day must be an important element to the BFL concept so I am trying to follow the book and hope I have some of the same great results I have seen from others on this site.

There has been a lot of debate on this site about free days. I have taken a free day since starting the program 6 weeks ago. Generally I feel gross after. Bloated and FAT. I am now figuring out that I don't even look at the scale for at least 2-3 day's after my free day. I think the bloating is caused by the high level of salt in the foods eaten on the free day.
Yesterday was my free day and I did the dreaded....an all you can eat chinese food! I told myself that i could eat all the veggies that I wanted but go easy on the fried foods. Well that didn't happen....Deep fried chicken balls and gingerfried beef were way over eaten!!!
I really felt like crap after...and still feeling bad today. But the worse part is the mental shutdown that you are talking about. This morning I looked in the mirror and felt so discouraged when I say my bloated belly. I even started doubting whether I could do this program. I guess I was just plain old being Negative! I quickly had to get my mind set in the right place and tell myself that free days are good. That it will trick my body and in the long run I will be better off for having these free days. I just need to stay out of the all you can eat restraunts!!!
When your brain gets into the "couch potatoe" mode, just get on the Tracker and kick start it again by reading a couple of good threads!
Keep up your efforts Janis:)

Yes I do find it hard after cheat day. You're not alone there. What I do to combat it as much as I can is Sunday I buy all my groceries, and prep some stuff for the week. Right now my fridge is stocked full of great food. I also sit down with my journal and make sure my food is planned for Monday, and think about why I am doing this. And most importantly, that workout first thing Monday morning gets rid of the negative free day blues. Once you prove to yourself a few times as the weeks go by that you CAN get right back on track on Monday it gets easier.

Idiot me left my purse in our car today while it was parked in a crowded public entrance to a hiking trail. Idiot someone else took the opportunity to break out the window of our car, and the one parked next to ours, and steal our stuff.
I lost my driver's license, credit card, check book, check card, Social Security card (two -- maiden name and married) and even my daughter's S.S. card. My hubby's wallet was in the car, too, but it wasn't in plain view so it was spared.
We're jumping through all the hoops and got the accounts closed and checks stopped in time (we think), but will now spend the FREAKING REST OF OUR LIVES watching out for id theft -- and our daughter, too!
DUMB!!!
*sigh*
But I did make it through the first week pretty darn good and posted pics as promised. There isn't any change (except my fake tan faded).
:-)

p.s. -- And I didn't give in and eat my way down fast-food row to compensate for BOHICA ...

Oh, honey. That sucks much. I hope they find the jackmonkey that stole your stuff.
Good for you for geting through week one and for not cleaning out an entire doughnut shop after finding out about the theft.

Oh man..that's a bummer (I didn't know anyone else knew BOHICA!!) Sorry about your purse. At least you found out soon and it wasn't a week later. And...best of all, YOU STAYED STRONG. That is AWESOME!!! Maybe it will help during your future workouts if you visualize the punk that stole your stuff.....wow...it would make me ultra STRONG!! :)

Yes -- it's awful. :-)
The worst is when you're the sad, lonely dork home on Friday eve. and you live near the W. Coast of the U.S. -- nothing new to read!
